I do the same thing when I change phones. My part time career (who provides me the phone) requires me to keep emails, texts, and such with personal information. I don't even let my family have open access for that reason.

Now tell me if you were a celebrity of any kind you would want to risk your personal information getting into anyone else's hand.

 

if you are subpoenaed then it doesn’t really matter what you want. It is also illegal and called obstruction of justice. Coincidence, doubt it.

If so, I think I'd rather catch a case for destroying evidence versus hand over personal information of many others that I'm sworn to keep private.

Not to mention if I had kids and the phone contained pictures of them....

For the record, I was willing to let the dead horse remain unbeaten.....

...but, the process was not held in a court of law. Goodell and the NFL acted as the judge, jury and executioner so subpoena's play no role in the proceedings. Brady told the NFL they could always get the desired information about the texts by asking for it from the people he texted, or they could request it from the phone carriers. The NFL decided not to pursue getting the information. This is an organization that is worth billions. They had the means to get the information, but they didn't try very hard. But they did try very hard to put forth several narratives that were subsequently shown to be false but were successful in swaying public opinion. That fact is proven by people like yourself who continue to say that Brady must be guilty, he destroyed his phone proves that, as that was a narrative that was released by the NFL. But the NFL has no evidence that there was anything of value on the phone and didn't really try to find out. Of course the NFL also released that 11 of 12 balls were under inflated by more than 2lbs when in reality only one was deflated that much, the one the Colts ended up with. And the final irony in your statement above is that when the proceedings did finally make it to a court of law the initial judgement was that the Brady suspension was thrown out since the judge determined the entire case the NFL brought forth was so full of holes it did not have merit. On appeal the NFL argued that it did not matter if the NFL was full of shit regarding the determination that Brady was guilty, the question wasn't if Brady was guilty or not it was if the Players Association contract with the NFL gave the NFL the right to come to any determination of guilt the NFL wanted and if they could punish Brady however they wanted. Unfortunately, the NFLPA had negotiated a particularly poor contract and they had no way to challenge Goodells judgement and punishment so down came the hammer. Guilty as charged! All to save face and not be seen by the public as being wrong again.
