The issue is long-term post-infection effects. Unlike the flu, when you recover from COVID we're still seeing that there is damage. Some neurological, a lot in the heart and lungs. If you're a professional athlete, a COVID infection could be career ending.

So, it's not about about losing money from one season of play but not getting paid at all because your cardiorespiratory system can't hack it anymore. THAT is some real shit.

I never saw Brady as narcissistic nor a showboat. He just wanted to win, which he did. Like it or not.

Everything I’ve read is that the long-term impaired lung function that affects other organs is prominent in people 65 or older or people who already have chronic lung, heart, kidney or liver disease or another pre-existing condition like diabetes. That’s why I mentioned the health condition of these athletes who are surrounded with an entourage of personal and team health experts to keep them in peak form. That’s also why I think they should be allowed to opt out. Maybe the 70 year old coordinator should be coaching remotely. Maybe the player with a weakened immune system or pre-existing condition shouldn’t make it past the initial screening for eligibility to play. Maybe a player who is so frightened of the what-ifs involved shouldn’t be penalized for sitting out a year. Ultimately though, I think it should be the player/coach/personnel’s decision.

We (the VA) are finding it as well in much younger veterans in their 30s and 40s. Surprised it isn't being reported more.

I tried to share the VA links but they're restricted to the VA network and research partners.

There’s a thin line between passionate competitor and entitled crybaby. Like it or not.

I’ll never forget November 18, 2013 Monday Night Football in Charlotte when Luke Kuechly picked off Tom Brady in the EZ with no time on the clock to end the game.

Tom Brady ran down the field and berated the official off the field and into the tunnel. You could read his lips and hear in the broadcast as he screamed “that’s fucking bullshit Clete!” Didn’t stick around to shake hands, sportsmanship be damned.

All I could think is man, if Cam pulled that nonsense it’d be on Sportscenter for a month.

Brady’s a winner and maybe the best NFL QB of all time....and he comes across as being well aware of it.

Understood, and if you’re a Healthcare Professional at the VA it’d be dumb for me to debate the subject with you further.

I will say from my point of view, as a non-HCP trying to navigate the barrage of COVID information, there seems to be a consensus about which groups are at risk but then we have the articles like the ones you linked that bring up cases that are not the norm and are under-reported. Personally, I struggle with those type of articles because they’re full of unknowns (links to non-peer reviewed papers, using words like “flurry” of cases referring to numbers of known cases) yet the cases happened so they can’t be discounted and are frightening. I do better with hard data and I wish there some statistics on ARDS in recovered COVID patients showing age and pre-existing conditions.

Not healthcare directly but healthcare IT. Currently working the security side of all of these connections between us, hospital systems, research groups, etc. It's a giant conglomeration of crap that doesn't like to talk to each other, and an IT clusterfuck surrounded by a goat rope all wrapped in a shit storm. As such, I get to get invited to a lot of their meetings. It's interesting to be a fly on the wall.

We've had WWII vets making complete recoveries with no scarring and full function, and 45 year-old normally healthy former infantrymen who now face lifelong cardiovascular effects. We're just at the beginning of a 4 year study on the long-term effects, and there still isn't any apparent rhyme or reason to why it affects some and not others with the same underlying conditions.

Best hopes are still on a vaccine before it mutates.

That sounds like a daily headache but those meetings would be interesting. I saw this article earlier related to our conversation on post-COVID symptoms I thought was interesting though still in a testing phase:

    https://www.prnewswire.com/news-rel...ble-new-treatment-for-covid-19-301085175.html

Alright I’ve derailed this thread enough, back to it: Cam Newton should be more inclined to dive on important fumbles as a Patriot since the balls are under-inflated and softer.
