    Lived in White Plains for a year when I was 5-6 and it's nothing like what one thinks of when they hear NY. Within a block (12 houses up/down and 3-4 left/right is the block) we had a convenience store, grocery store, church, playground etc..my dad drove 4 miles each way to work.
