Defense wins championships, everybody knows that.

But, no matter how good your defense is, your offense has to help out.

In Denver's case for 2015, Defense + Special Teams wins Championships. And Lady Luck always helps.

The offense pretty much just got them in field goal range. In the playoffs the Denver kicker goes 10/10 with six over 40 yds. Ties an NFL record with five FG's in a playoff game.

Denver's offense scored four TD's in three postseason games, ten FG's. The Norwood 61 yard punt return was huge in the Super Bowl.

So...4PM EST today is the deadline for franchise tags, and the league year is up next Tuesday at 4PM.

Gonna be some fun times in the next week. Who stays, who goes, who is traded, etc etc.

    Then again...why should he?

He's under contract through next year. He has no obligation to decide X by date Y.

    They already did.

It's the Broncos under pressure here, not Peyton. If they don't want to pay him, they HAVE to release him. He can do absolutely nothing and be sittin' pretty for OTAs in May. If he's on roster next week, his money is guaranteed. That's Denver's problem, not Mannings

I thought his $19 mil wasn't guaranteed yet. I think they will release him.

Its guaranteed if he's on the roster as of....I think it's March 12th or 13th. They have from teh first day of the league year (March 9th) until that day to release him or sign him to a new deal of some kind. Otherwise, his years' salary isn't going anywhere.

It's March 9th. They will have no problem releasing him if he can't make up his mind. His salary isn't guaranteed until then as they can basically fail his physical for any reason whatsoever

The Broncos would just rather not look like the bad guys that release him and would rather have him retire... Looks like Manning might force them to release him though

I agree. It's all but certain they will release him.

    AAron Ontiveroz Denver Post ......

It's not a matter of if but when Peyton Manning is no longer a member of the Denver Broncos.

A source tells FOXSports.com that the Broncos are proceeding with contract negotiations with other players without counting Manning and his $19 million salary on their books for salary cap purposes.

I was never a real Manning fan when he played for the colts...

When he came to Denver, I came to respect and like him. He did good things for the Broncos and I was happy to see him and the Broncos win the Super Bowl.

Seems like the perfect chance for him to retire and "go out on top". I'm amazed he hasn't announced his retirement.

I hope he doesn't pull a Favre and extend his career too long. The Super Bowl win is the only thing that prevented this last season from being "one too many" for him.

It'll be interesting to see how this plays out.

They have to cut him or trade him Monday to avoid the $19M guarantee. Nobody will trade for him at this point, with that money. Which is also why if he's cut, he'll pass through waivers and become a UFA.

The question then becomes, who comes calling? He's not worth 19 million at this point, but his mind is a sharp as ever. The spirit may be willing, but the body?

I've been saying it since the neck injury - one or two years as an OC and then head coach. Peyton has had a football brain since Pop Warner.

Sounds feasible. The body is toast, It's coaching or the announcer booth. If he goes to some team lookin for a miracle, it most likely wont end well. Denver has offered Osweiler a three year deal for 'as much as' $45 million. He's up for sale right now. The game goes on.

I wouldn't even think Peyton can be a backup right now..both physically (first) and I don't feel he would settle for that

He COULD, but I honestly don't for a second believe he WOULD. If that were his only option I think he'd go direct to the coaching staff or broadcast booth.

So I sorta agree with you, just not your wording ;)
