NGK ignition wires any good and a 2nd on antifreeze

    hi
    I have a 1999 tacoma 2.7l,2 wheel dr wth a 175k miles.
    I am changing the plugs and wires and bought NGK plugs and
    was curious how are there wires?
    also i was thing of flushing the antifreeze and replacing it..anything to know?
    and third im thinking of putting a oil cooler nr the radiator,when doing so do you compensate extra oil for the extra area?

    Their wires are pretty much the go to recommendation on TW. I've been running them for 50,000 miles so far and they are fine. Plus very affordable.

    NGK is good stuff. All I ever used in my 7k RPM previous ride.

    Cooling system is nothing special; basic servicing principles apply. I prefer an OE Tstat, too many bad experiences with aftermarket ones. But that's just me and my extra couple bucks.

    Why do you think you need an oil cooler? (I'm assuming you mean engine oil, not transmission fluid).

    good to hear on the wires.
    i just think wth the engine oil cooler it would just allow the truck on those hot days to run a bit easier..
    sort of like a preventive application..

    How a vehicle is used determines the value of a cooler. Often (as in most street applications) its a waste of time and money, provides another potential failure point and can actually cause harm if the oil doesn't get up to the proper operating temperature.

    I've seen Solo II cars that had no need for a cooler, even when hot lapped most of the day. I've seen the same driveline in a Solo 1 car also do quite fine w/o a cooler. Hot lapped, hot days.

    But take that same driveline, add properly tuned levels of boost in the Solo I setting, and monitoring showed a cooler was a wise choice. Move it over to Solo II or even hard street use, no need, even with the boost.

    I'm thinking a 2.7 2wd that is properly maintained can hardly be flogged enough to deserve a cooler. Maybe if you are trying to tow max capacity loads at speed over mountain passes? ;-) If it's an auto, and you are doing something like this, I'd be much more concerned about monitoring and adding cooling to the trans than the motor.

    But its your ride, your choice.

    thnx..no towing but i do load 1/2 yard of sand and a few other heavy materials but always go at a safe lazy pace,,
    any opinion on seafoam gas additive and how often do you add it?

    Since I use synthetic oil, and Blackstone lab tests show I can go well beyond 10k on OCIs, I've just rounded down to 10k for convenience. I'll add an appropriate size bottle of Techron or Redline injector cleaner to a full tank and run it close to empty just prior to the oil change.

    While fuel system additives that work don't often affect the crankcase, they can serve a secondary purpose of decarbonizing the top end of the motor. So, my choice of timing of additive use is 'just in case' some contaminants work their way into the oil stream.

    i try to do my oil changes every 3500mi. usually castrol oil..
    i tried techron once and saw no noticable changes
