What I can say about the NGK's, having never installed them myself, was that when I pulled them out, at unknown mileage, to put OE denso's in (did this yesterday)... the NGK's were all evenly worn to within .001 of eachother. They weren't messed up or anything, just very worn. I'm expecting to see a performance improvement with the next week's driving. I do feel a bit more power when I step on it, but I attribute that to the proper gap, not the different plug brand.

It ran fine with the gap at .051 from them being worn, so I can assume that the NGK plugs don't completely suck (at the very least), and my motor isn't messed up since they had completely even and normal wear... :)

Good to know, looks like mine was serviced at a dealership regularly before I bought it then :D

It would be interesting to hear Toyota's logic behind it though.

So, if they were to piss off either company, they still would be able to keep assembly lines running? I'd bet that that yours were still the factory plugs. Dealership would not have followed suit and installed all the same brand "if" they had changed them out.

I don't think it matters, both are good, if in doubt, do as Toyota, use 3 of each. jmop

At 123,000 km I sincerely hope not

My curiosity has been piqued now, next time I'm by a dealer I may need a few questions answered on the subject.
