The same reason why people don't like Ovechkin, Malkin, Zetterberg, ect... If these players were on "your" team, they would be the best thing since sliced bread. I don't really care for Ovechkin, but DAMN is he good. I think Zetterberg cheated in game 1 and 2 and plays dirty IMO, but I would still like him to play for the Pens next year.

Hell, I really don't like Shawn Avery, but would mind if he played in the black and gold.

Also, last year's final game 5, which went 3 OTs. Huge game for Fluery!

i figured it was just normal "hatin" but i was thinkin there was a specific reason since it was such a widespread thing. i personnally don't get too caught up in that kinda of stuff. i get pissed when someone takes a dive and we get a penalty but i don't think they are a pussy for doing it.

and avery is a d-bag. no room for him in the burgh.

Well put! People hate on Crosby because he is good. No, he doesn't try to fight everyone on the ice and draw unnecessary penalties. The Flyers Hartnell is dirty as shit and will fight anyone and everything...what is he doing today??? How about Sean Avery?
Fights don't win games; they draw penalties and piss off the refs.

As for diving and over-reacting on possible penalties...that happens in every sport. Look at football and how much those guys bitch at the refs for shit. Look at kickers who get touched by a shoelace and go down grabbing their leg - that draws a HUGE and usually clutch penalty. Every professional player does it. There is so much on the line and those penalties are huge. Its the refs job to determine what was a penalty and what was not.

I would be considered extremely hypocritical if I shared with you who one of my favorite players is, but I have my reasons and so I won't. :)

I don't hate on Crosby cause he's good. He's fabulous, certainly, but I would still consider him a whiner if he were on my team. Just so you know he was voted as such by his peers (by a landslide) so we're not out to lunch. He's a great player, he doesn't need to dive, embellish or complain to the refs as often as he does. I'd respect him a lot more if he didn't.

I wouldnt really call him a whiner.... I just say he's Overrated..!!! There were other players on that team that deserved the "C" before he did!! But i digress... I remember in the early 90's when Paul Kariya was "The Next Gretzky" Look how well that turned out (hes still a good player though, dont get me wrong). Crosby is Overrated and there are much better players in the NHL that deserve as much if not more TV time then the kid gets. Old G. Bettman pretty much bends over backwards to keep Sid as the young flashy face of the NHL!

Again, whats wrong with having one of the best and youngest players in the league be the face of the NHL? They are losing market share and interest from fans and the league is trying to attract new and younger fans. The NHL didn't put that C on his chest...his team did.

Crosby has amazing stick handling skills, scored more goals than all but 2 other players in the entire league and is one of the youngest players out there. He also catches the eye of the ladies. He doesn't start fights, he doesn't hit unfairly, he does a lot in the community and is just an all around good person. He also speaks clear English. All things that make him a perfect role model for the NHL. I see no problem with that. What is your problem with that?

The NHL has struggled to get fans over the past few years. It's not like it was in the early 90's. Hell, they are only airing games on Versus and some local stations. Direct TV customers don't even get VS in the standard package. They need to do something to attract new fans and I think Crosby is a great answer. No, I guess the "old timers" are never going to agree but there is no answer to satisfy everyone.

I'm looking at this objectively...not just as a Penguins fan.

saying sid is overated is just B.S. numbers and stats don't lie.not to mention the amount of leadership he has. he is a game maker when he gives his all everyone takes notice and they win game.it's getting old hearing everyone whine and complain about sid he is already a great player that get's better every year.listen to his post game interviews there is no whining just.

Great players step up when it matters most. Sid has 3 pts and a -2 in the Stanley Cup finals. Regular season stats are one thing, but its a whole new arena when it comes crunch time. I'm sorry, but 3 pts and -2 isn't worth an 8.7 million dollar contract or that flashy C...especially when he isn't even the best player on his team.

Now if he comes out and gets a hattie in game 7 or really turns it on and makes people say "wow" then I'll reconsider, but as of now I see him as an overpaid kid that's had a few good moments but mostly just sits in front of goalies and capitalizes on their mistakes. I'll take Zetterberg or Dats any day of the week.

we can say the same about hossa the fact is these players are human the have bad days like the rest of us.look at his stats for the playoffs overall he has produced.look at his stat's for the season they speak for his skill.he is playing against what some say is the best team in the nhl in years.so to say he is an over paid kid is just an unjustifiable opion.

No one is claiming sid is the greatest player to ever grace the ice. A few select haters feel he should not be the face of the NHL. He is the face of the NHL...not because he has the best +/- rating but because he represents everything the NHL wants to promote (youth, skill, community involvement, teamwork).

I personally would prefer my face of the NHL to be great. The players themselves voted him the 8th best player in the league behind the likes of Ovi, Malkin, Datsyuk, Zetterberg, etc. I understand where you are coming at from youth, community, teamwork but I feel there is a better way to promote the NHL (stop letting NBC control the league, get off of Versus, stop trying to keep failing franchise's a float when other cities are greately better suited for NHL programs).

I feel the same way about making Crosby the face of the NHL the way I feel about making LeBron the face of the NBA. Where are their accomplishments? Like I said, Sid could make me eat my words tonight...but until he does I can't put stock in him. Zetterberg personifies the NHL I like. (I'm not a Wings fan...I just like his style of play/leadership/difference making factor/multiple Stanley Cups)

I guess 52% of the NHL cries alot too then: http://www.forumeter.com/video/163573/Sidney-Crosby-Voted-Biggest-Whiner-by-NHL-Players

sid was drafted in 2005 and is already in his second cup in to seasons.won the art ross, hart trophy as mvp,petersonleaster.b.pearson award as outstanding player voted by his peers.he is the youngest player to reach 200 goals.took the pens to then playoffs for the first time since 2001.all of this and more accomplished in three seasons.so before people say he is overrated and not deserving to be the face of the nhl because he has acccomplished nothing.you all need to look at the facts the numbers and awards.everyone needs to do their home work before posting, if it's opinion thats fine.give credit where credit is due
