just frustrating. im sure the person was experiencing something but, what that is could be normal . dude might be venting because some dealer told him it was normal and he didnt like to hear that.

He could have traded one of those 3rd gens with the 6 speed auto that likes to gear hunt for the 4G that is now giving him transmission ptoblems.

One vague tranny complaint reported versus tens of thousands sold monthly…An impartial observer would see that as an impressive endorsement.

But the YouTube clickbait will read something like, “New Proof That Tacoma is Finished!”

My solution to gear hunting is to start in S3 from a top and manually perform the shifts into 4, 5, and 6. Or get OTT.

Could be the Orkin man he might not like how the transmission shifts. Does it say who the customer is or what kind of truck it was? Was it a hybrid or a gas truck. I'm thinking it's a hybrid. I drove a new Prius Prime yesterday, I think it was a 24. I like it for a small car I didn't know how to operate anything except the AC windows signals I didn't bother with the screen or nothing. Being new and built in Japan was probably the most appealing part, I doubt the 4G feels the same inside, it has cloth seats and I know nothing about the various trims.

Probably started using the AC and that altered the shifting points and does not feel the same.

Mine was smooth up until 8k were it made a loud clunking sound and started to hold lowers gears and jerked forward. It happen for 2 or 3 days and it slowly became less noticeable as the week went by. When I took it in they couldn't replicate it. they checked for codes and checked trans fluids. Nothing came up. I dont use ac and I do have an early 24. Before that it was really smooth. They told me if it gets worse to bring it in.

That's a good point. I've noticed on mine, the A/C compressor cycles very frequently and shudders the vehicle more than any other I've owned. That's the only annoying part of driving it.

Same observation here on both counts! Each time the A/C clutch engages (...every 20 seconds lol) it sends a tremor through the whole truck. I didn't use the A/C for the first month of ownership (bought it in cold weather). First time I had the A/C on I seriously wondered for a moment if something was broken.

What I wonder was brought up again maybe a long week ago when my service advisor was looking for update on brake recall. She said people who've not had any of the modern 8-10 speed automatics or are used to something else think they've got problems that don't exist. I've driven Honda/Acura and for heavier duty Ford & GM light trucks I'm pretty sure have 10 speed autos, and they're not not like older transmissions.

That service advisor also said she's been with the parent firm that has many dealerships including other Toyota stores for a while, and commensurate with other high sales volume vehicles just nothing is showing these pickups and the SUVs sharing much being lemons.

My cousin who recently retired from large dealer chain service management would say the breadcrumbs for what often become recalls or known lemons show pretty fast for high volume vehicles. It will probably be soon when 1/2 million of these have shipped. That helps me think the gen 4 are just not lemons.

I expect they are not lemons. I couldn't make up my mind which mid size or compact truck to get so I hung out on all the Forums for almost two years before deciding on the Tacoma. Many issues with the others. Some serious issues. Practically none with the Tacoma. All I remember is a few trans taking a dump with early builds and A/C knobs breaking off. With non mechanical/electrical it's just been crappy paint jobs and thin paint. For a new model, that's pretty a good track record so far.
