That's cool... but I was asking if you'd turn down a FREE $10k. Not an offer of $10k for your truck.

If this is a true story, the OP basically turned down free money (though, finding another 1st Gen and selling the new truck would be a bit of a hassle).

Anyway... this isn't worth an argument or anything. I'm just surprised.

At one point the guy at the local pizza shop started talking to me about trading my Taco (worth about $10,000) for what hes got . I knew someone there had a Daytona Ram so I kept talking cause it would have been nice to have something that was kind of fun to drive....

but i digress. turns out he did not own the Ram but a nice 2003 Dodge Neon.......with tinted windows?.......valued at 3 grand....

Ahh I hear ya. No I would not turn down an extra 10k. Finding a low mileage 1st. gen. would be tough but I would definitely take the money. I guess the OP loves his 1st. gen. more than I do mine:eek:

I'd have to say that I'd have to seriously think about it if it were me. On the one hand, common sense would tell you that it would be dumb not to take the deal if it were a straight up trade....

On the other hand. I got my truck from my Dad. He bought it brand new and has put 100k miles on it. After me asking him for 5 years to sell it to me, he finally gave in. This truck has more sentimental value than the blue book for me.... this wasn't a "hand me down Corolla" from Dad... This is the truck I've been begging to BUY from him for 5 years... and I got it.

None of you have mentioned the saying that if it sounds too good to be true it probably is. This guy is either lying out his ass or somebody was trying to scam him. Anybody who would offer to trade a brand new truck for one with 150,000 miles on it (regardless of how clean) is hiding something. People that stupid are kept under lock and key.

That being said I would not have told him no. I would have told him I would have to think about it for a day and I would've ran a Carfax report on the truck and had it inspected somewhere.

Dude, don't worry about anyone's crap. Everyone is "monday morning quarterbackin", including me. I think I would have done things differently but it didn't happen to me. Who knows, I probably would have done what you did. I bought my 1G for a reason...

Yeah.. I'd definitely have to talk to Dad about it in your situation.

That's certainly a possibility. I'm basically going on the premise that somebody legitimately wants to trade a Gen 1 for a Gen 2, straight up. In real life, I bet the guy would have wanted the Gen 1 plus money to make it even, in which case I wouldn't have taken the deal.

So... Theoretically, I would have said yes to this deal. In reality, it probably would have come with some sort of string (like money from me) that would have made me turn it down, too.

Dude, I think you dodged a bullet. There are title scams going on in this world. You would have traded titles and been holding a fake. If is seems too good to be true then it probably is.

    I do like your truck!!

I agree 100%. To good to be true. Anyway, why would someone offer a trade like that if they where on the loosing end of the bargain. Scott, you did the right thing. Forget about it, don't let it both you. You won this one...;)

He probably meant that he gets your truck, and you get his truck and the payment that goes with it.

I think you did the right thing. Sure you could have made some money, but it's just too hard to find a clean gen1.........at least in my market. Plus, I don't trust some dude in the parking lot.

Anyone bought "brand new" speakers from a guy in a white van?
