Nikon D3/5x00 software issue

    Not breaking news, but only a month or so old, and given that most of us don't go looking for software updates for hardware that is not online...

    Given this, I would suspect that we can assume that there will be no support for aftermarket batteries or battery grips in the upcoming D3300/5300 and future models.

    The software update claims to maximize number of shots on the battery, and indeed, on the EL14a, the D3300 specs at 700 shots per charge compared to the D3200's 540.

    Personally, I haven't gotten anywhere near that out of my D3100.
    I'm in my mid-400's on the body and have probably run the battery down completely twice. I've also preemptively changed it twice before situations where I'd rather not have to change it.
