Its like 8.3 vs 9.6 inches between the Frontier and Tacoma isn't it?

    upload_2018-8-29_16-22-43.jpg

    Doesn't look terrible to me.

If you get 5k off and it fits your budget, get it. I looked at the value flipping my old one and how I loved the interior of the ‘17. I’m in my truck 3-4 hours a day. I love my truck. Has there been some crap in the 3rd gens I had to deal with?Yes! All that being said I’d still flip my 2 wheel drive 2015 prerunner for my 2017 4 wheel drive TRD Sport 10/10 times.

Buy whatcha want. I almost pulled the trigger on the Nissan but I wanted the Tacoma.

That’s the distance to the bottom of the Diff pumpkin (lowest spot), which is comparable. The issue with the Frontier is the rocker panels and frame rails are considerably lower, maybe by a few inches. The are known to scrape their frames a lot.

Agree, although they will be billed as 'copying' the Tacoma. I'm wondering which full-size will be the first to go polymer bed ?

Everyone seems to by copying everyone. Toyota copied Ford's stamped tailgate. Everyone seems to have the slow release tailgate now (not sure who copied who on that).

Sometimes I think the designers from the various companies meet in a room once a year to see whats "popular" and how they can make their vehicles look similar.

I owned a 08 NISMO. Excellent acceleration, good off road manners in both 4 Hi & Lo, decent handling on city streets. Good line of sight. Turning radius was not at the level of the competition but never ran into a situation where it became an issue.

Looks cool but Tacomas have a 20 year history of guys taking them off road and beating the hell out of them, and we all benefit from the whole body of knowledge that comes from that.

I like the Frontier a lot (it's a perfect bare-bones "just a truck" truck), but I do wonder about its market appeal.

It seems like most of the guys looking for a work truck go for a full-size Big 3 model (at least in my area). I see the occasional Toyota or Nissan work truck, but they are definitely in the minority. As an aside, all the pest control guys in my area have Toyotas, but basically everyone else has Ford, GM, or Ram trucks. Not sure why.

And a lot of the people looking for a daily driver or fun truck go for a nicer-trim American model or Toyota truck. The Frontier strikes me as being too spartan for a daily, but too small for a lot of work requirements.

That said, they've been able to keep selling a truck from 15 years ago for...well, 15 years. They must be doing something right.

    Like, so many.
An updated version might challenge Toyota and that’s a good thing.

If it wasn't the outdated and ugly interior layout, I'd have chosen the Frontier over my Tacoma. I had an 06 Xterra OR and loved everything about it. Basic, simple, functional.

Got my 2012 Tacoma only because the interior is somewhat nicer.

Depreciation is a lot faster on the Frontier as well, despite the Nissan's design not changing in 14 years. When I got my Taco, I was cross-shopping the Frontier; the monthly payments on a 3-year lease were almost 50% higher on the Nissan.

The lawyers meet once a year to renew their patent cross-licensing agreements. The designers change jobs amongst the automakers every 90 days in keeping with their gay artistic lifestyle.

And? The current gen Frontier has been out for 15 years with very positive feedback. The VQ engine is tried and true. Compared to a 3 year old truck with mixed feedback and an unproven engine. Every off road shootout I watched between the Frontier, Tacoma and Colorado came out to a wash.

Nissan may not have the same reputation as Toyota, but since the D21 Hardbody those trucks have been every bit as solid. Always came with a better V6, too.

It's a great bang for the buck if you want a similar truck and don't mind the dated interior.

Other than the "Strawberry milkshake" issue with the Frontier, that's not even as catastrophic as the Tacomas' frame recall I suppose.

Stock vs stock is a wash. Nissan falls behind once the aftermarket comes into play .

To me, the Taco seems like the truck to buy if you want a cool ride with working capability. The Frontier is basically a wheelbarrow with a seat and an engine. The Tacoma is a truck that people want to mod and improve, whereas the Frontier is an appliance.

In the fall of 2017, when shopping for new 4X4 pickup, I found the Tacoma SR, AC, 4X4, MT, 4 banger, Utility Package (Delete) to be MUCH less expensive than Nissan's lowest price 4X4 pickup. The price differential was a reflection of the fact that all Nissan 4X4's were 6 bangers and AT.

Let me repeat: At the time of my purchase (December 2017), Toyota offered the least expensive, new, 4X4 pickup. True fact.
