Yes. The Tacoma fog lights circuit work when that wire is grounded. I used a positap to hook on to that wire.

    from post #279:
Finally finished wiring up my fogs.

I decided to use Positaps to make wiring the switch almost painless.

The small 18-22ga red and grey taps are the correct size.

    To wire a universal plug:

green goes to the 26 wire
red 1 and black to ground on the 10mm bolt under the dash
red 2 I used another positap from the deck plug positive for the bed lights.

Pressing the switch will connect the 26 wire to ground at red 1, which will turn on the fog lights.

Why not remove n replace the stalk switch to one with the fog selection?$$$

This is what I did. Cleaner and more convenient than an aftermarket dash switch.

Because I am very much an amateur at this sorta stuff, and the thought of removing the steering wheel scares the piss outta me

Ok, fair enough. So get the replacement terminal, crimp it to the length where you will place the substitute switch (on-off type). Long enough to not get yank when work needs to be done in the area.
Remove the connector like Nitori has shown, and place the new wire there...so as not to mess with the original wire going to the steering.
Or is that not what you would want to do?

It did me too. I sat on it for about 3 weeks while I got up the courage to do it. When I did it turned out to be easy peasy. Not one glitch, not one hump to get over. It all came apart and went back together without a hitch.

I'm in the same boat. About to buy the stalk but still a little skittish. How was the wire spring coil taking it out and placing it back? The air bag has me nervous a little but its straightforward

I assume you're talking about the clock spring. Couldn't be any easier. Popped off and back on without any effort at all. Make sure you plug all the cables back in when you put it back together.

Yeah, the steering wheel really wasn't bad. Just make sure you know what orientation the wheel was in when you take it off (photo from your driver's perspective can help with this). Remember, with the key out the steering is locked, so it's not going to move randomly on you while the wheel is off.

Edit to add - yeah, I was scared of the airbag too. Definitely unscrewed it and removed it while standing outside of the truck, then carried it around to the passenger seat and set it down facing up. Presumably any safe location away from where you're working on the wheel would be fine.

And don't forget to disconnect the battery before you monkey with the airbag.

I have a buddy that I work with make it. I believe there is stencils out there but he does decals every now and then on the side. So I got him to grab the picture and let his program trace it all out.

Is this link still the current and correct fuse? I know that Amazon sellers can change listings sometimes and I noticed that the relay was marked as an HVAC relay and just wanted to confirm.

Has anyone else done the steering wheel off method? Seems like that's the route I'm going to be going with. Was it hard/nerve wracking?

I might bug Nitori to have me over so he can document that part to update the OP.

Yep, looks like the one I ordered.

I did the steering wheel off method. Hesitated about 3 weeks out of fear. Turned out to be easy peazy. Had no issues at all. Would do again.

Yeah the relay is a common relay that is used for most of the electrical systems that need one. You should be good to go!

And someday my garage might not be an utter disaster area...:angrygirl:

"...unused deck lighting plug..." That looks a lot like the stereo plug Toyota has used for decades. Almost any parts store or anywhere stereos are sold will have the matching one in stock. Then you don't have to remove electrode pins. Yes, you then would have to make some sort of splice or other set of plugs for the two wires. You could even get a female and a male and make a "Y" cable in case you ever wanted the factory plug pin outs available. But then you need two more: "repair" terminals for the connector: 82998-12340 (or if you get both male/female the extra wire/pins could be used from them, since it appears there are 4 empty positions in the truck's connector)
