Bump! Another edit to the guide... turns out that some SR's DO have the body ECU terminal wired, all the way into the turn signal stalk!

I don't have enough of a sample size to confirm this, but it looks like the key is either V6 or Double Cab, and suddenly the non-gimped wiring harness re-appears!

Hi and welcome to TW. Best place to buy the harness is straight from the dealer. Runs around $45 range.

For starters great and highly informative article you wrote. For many years, I did monthly technical articles for a PWC (JetSki) publication. So, I can really appreciate your writing and photo efforts!!!
I recently took ownership of my 2017 Utility Access Cab. It has a total of eleven miles on it, yes 11...
I drove it from the dealer to my shop and tore it all apart the first day. I,ve been taking lots of photos of all the mods and as I get more proficient with this site, I'm going to release some write ups of my own.
I get to the point, I got all the way to where your terminal repair wire was installed, added a test switch to ground (-) and the Fogs worked fine.
So, instead of a dash mounted switch, I decided to push the envelope and upgrade to a turn signal switch that has the integrated Fog light switch. Seems like it would work, since we merely need just a grounded (-) switch connection.
The newer switch is plug and play (sort of) it has three extra pins when tested for continuity (uninstalled) two pins works properly as the Fog switch should (on/off) I have no idea what the third pin is for, when tested across or in conjunction with the other two active pins. Perhaps ground (-). So, here's the frustrating part, once it's plugged in at the main harness and re tested for continuity, it loses its ability to act like a switch (on/off) However every other feature of the new signal switch works as the original set up did. So, it's not a total loss of $90.00...
If possible, I'm still determined to use this switches, Fog feature. I think it would be a great addition to your already great write up, if people don't want to add a dash switch. To be honest, it's not that difficult to access and upgrade the turn signal switch. Even the Airbag is no big deal, when safely removed! Plus adding the intermittent Wiper switch can be done at the same time too. I have taken lots of step by step photos and will release them if I can find a resolution. Plus all OEM part numbers.
So Nitori, do you have any suggestions? Please view my photos of the original verses the new Fog integrated switch.
Thank You, Sensei (teacher)IMG_1150.jpgThe switch at the bottom is the original. The switch on top comes from the higher end 2016/17 Tacoma models.
Note. If we can find a resolution, I will do a detailed write up including all OEM part numbers of my install.IMG_1149.jpgAgain the switch at the bottom is the original. Notice it only has a lower row of pins.
The switch at the top is the upgrade. It has an additional row (3 pins), the two starting from the left and center, have continuity when tested on the bench. The Fog portion works perfect on/off. However, once plugged into the main harness, it loses its ability to act like a simple switch...
Hopefully with all the great minds out there, we can all have another option to Nitori's write up.
Any suggestions Mr. Nitori?IMG_1143.jpg Not bad for a truck with only eleven miles on it, you should see the exterior. LOL!
It's actually really easy to get to this point and as promised, If we find a solution I'll do a detailed write up...cIMG_1233.jpg
First day back at my shop. Couldn't stand the Black Utility Bumper, so off it came to get color matched in White. T-Rex, flat billet grill with no logos too.
Besides, easier to test all the lighting and fog upgrades!

    OK, so...

    1. No idea on that 3rd pin. Totally stumped there.
    2. It sounds like you have a bad ground if the stalk switch isn't working properly. Look at the picture I made below.

I have a SR Double cab that I want to add fog lights to one day. What do I need to look for to confirm if I'm prewired for the fogs?

The easiest way would be to pop your steering column cover off. Pretty simple, it's the one with 2 screws where you separate the top and bottom halves.

Once that is open, look on the left hand side of the column. You should find a connector that looks like this:

If this connector has 2 (or 3) extra wires going into the top row, one of which that is above that yellow wire, (it does NOT have them in my picture) you're prewired to the body ECU.

Be sure to let me know what you find! It would help narrow down the harness variations.

Ok, will look into this later this week. I did the intermittent wiper upgrade so I'm familiar with taking the steering column apart. I will update later in the week, thanks.

I think you hit it on the nose. I have the V6 SR Double cab. My SR has the convenience package. And it looks to be prewired.20161229_160945.jpg

    Hello Again
Some of you might recall my first ever post in response to Nitori's Fog light upgrade.
I own a 2017 Utility Access Cab, I decided to order a turn signal switch that came standard in the higher end fog equipped models, which have the on/off fog switch built in. Some of the recent replies have related to my quest for having the switch integrated with the turn signal, instead of the dash mounted as Nitori has accomplished. However no complete resolution, to the three pin mystery that lies within...
I just wanted to push the envelope and see if it was possible to install a non pre wired, extra three pin turn signal switch into a "Utility" or SR version.
Well, I'm proud to say I have installed, tested and resolved the three pin mystery!!!
If your mechanically inclined and willing to take the extra steps, it's a seamless fog lamp set up, which mimics all 16/17 fog equipped Gen 3's. The Fog icon even appears on the gauge cluster.
I've taken lots of photos of the process and if I get enough people requesting to go this route, I'll do a sidebar write up to Nitori's great post...
    Thanks TK

Who wouldnt be interested in this, as I also have a 17 utility....write it up please, that would be great, I have ordered a fog light kit but it seems they were lost and or damaged in route according to UPS. I have since cancelled the order and scrapped tne fog light idea as of now, but with the integrated switch I would actually think of buying OEM fogs now, thanks.

Would I also venture to guess that this mod will give us "AUTO" lights too, meaning you wouldn't have to turn off your headlights manually when exiting the vehicle.....this would be a bonus too, along with the fogs.

Is it possible to have this switch.....from a limited, on our SRs? This is what I would want! I am also wodering if that 3rd mystery pin is the auto lights.....
