So if the truck is pre-wired from the body ECU can you still use the switch from the second gen? It seems like you would have to trace the wire back some, cut it, and run it to the dash mounted switch. Am I understanding this correctly?

I can confirm that my '16 access cab 4 cyl is pre wired for fogs up to the switch. I'll be tearing into this as well for a "factory" install and will post my results. I work in a body shop so pulling the airbag is nothing to me!

If it's pre-wired to the switch do you just need to pull the steering wheel to change out the stalk and install the fog's in the bumper? No more having to pin the harness and stuff correct?

Subbed. I'm assuming convenience package is prewired, and utility not? I can check mine tonight. Would definitely be interested in a revised process for prewired, especially considering the $25 coupon i just got from Olathe Toyota.

I need some clarification on the right switch for the stalk control as well. There's a few different ones out there. Some look the same, but have one number different in the pn.

Parts diagrams never show the actual differences, it's just a stock drawing of what the assembly vaguely looks like.

My understanding is the correct P/N for stalk switch is: 84140-0R030 (the "without" fog switch is *R020)

I haven't gotten confirmation on this yet. If someone would be so generous as to confirm on their pre-wired truck, @Heifetz17 maybe... (You should see a BLUE wire in body ECU pin 26 described in my guide)
I could update this guide for pre-wired folks, because then it would really just be swapping in the stalk and plugging in the relay/ fogs, no crawling around under the dash necessary.

I have my switch, lights, and bezels on order. I'll confirm this weekend if I have the wire at the computer and the harness from the computer to the lights. If so it should just be plug and play.

I have a DCSB SR with convenience package. I can check mine and report back as well.

@Nitori thanks for the confirmation on the switch!

I don't think my Tacoma is prewired, I can't find the wire that everybody's telling me to look for

Can you check your body ECU terminal under the dash for the wire there, please? It should be a blue wire going in to the red circled pinout:
Black wire to the left of it, green wire under it. Once I have confirmation on this I can amend the guide a bit. (See the OP for more info, I think you could possibly peer up there with a flashlight and see without any dash removal)

Okay, I had a look. You will have to forgive me, as electrical is a weakness of mine ... so I had to google what a body ECU was.

I'm pretty sure I can see the terminal, peeking through/past my OBDII port ... and there is definitely a blue wire going in at the approximate location. Well, If I'm looking at the correct terminal, of course. I would have to confirm by taking the dash panel off as I cannot see the terminal face since I'm sort of looking around a corner at it. The wires are tough to track from the perspective I can see from, and I'm red/green colorblind ... so outside of blue I will always question what I am seeing.

I stole this pic from Corey's write up. Circled in yellow (?) is the terminal I was looking at. Is this the correct one?

Can somebody help me try to find the correct wire on my utility SR. I'm trying to locate the correct wire to help identify if the truck is prewired.

I've got a line on some OEM take off fogs and bezels locally. If I can get my hands on those I'll move forward with sourcing a switch and harness.

I am going to check, but the reports in this thread make me confident my truck is pre-wired. It's a 2017 DCSB V6 with convenience package. Before I move forward with getting a switch I will check to make sure the truck is pre wired. If for some reason it isn't I can always follow plan A in this thread!
