Here's an update on my NOS installation: Finally completed the install. It was actually quite easy after some help folks on this thread. I'm starting with the lowest jet setting (55 shot) of the 55, 75, 100,125 shot options). I had it dyno'd and the 55 shot gave it a 45HP boost at the wheels on standard 87 octane fuel. That's probably about 54HP at the crank considering the losses through drive train & oversized tires. Unfortunately the dyno couldn't capture the RMP off the coil wire, so it wouldn't output the torque curves for me. The good news is the Fuel to Air ratio is spot on. I've hit the NOS about 12 times over the past month. I've been keeping my ears tuned for any spark knock or weird sounds that might indicate something is not right. So far so good. I do notice a deeper growl from the motor when i stomp on the throttle and a sharper pull as it steps between the first couple gears. Not bad for a motor with 106K miles on it.
    Kit: ZEX-82047
Cost: $564 delivered +$54 to fill the 10lb NOS bottle at Pep Boys.
    Install time: ~4hours.
    Level of difficulty: easy
Engine tuning: none (colder spark plugs were recommended but i didn't change them)
Engine mods: none (no exhaust, cold intake, or anything else. Totally stock, other than the NOS set-up)

If i jump to the 75 shot I'll have to retard the timing 2 degrees which requires me to buy some sort of Unichip deal that I'm not likely to spend $ on. I think I'm asking for trouble if I go beyond 75 shot.

I really don't care too much about street performance. I really only did this to improve performance in the dunes for climbing big hills, drifting bowls, or sand drags. I see a lot of Tacomas out there so it's nice to have an edge. Oddly I've haven't personally come across a supercharged Tacoma yet, so it seems there aren't many folks willing to drop the $$$$$ for that performance upgrade. I can't blame them. I couldn't justify it. I see plenty of $$$ spent on suspensions though, which probably makes more sense.

Anyway, I'll keep this thread updated as i figure out how many squirts I can get out of a 10lb bottle with 55 shot. (still on my first bottle today) Of course if i blow up my motor I'll surely post about that as it's important to know this things if you plan on doing this to your truck.
I'm considering posting a video of the installation to demonstrate how simple this really is.

Shout out to TORSPD, LARGE, Gear Cruncher, and others who were helpful in making this a reality.

Update: I got 22 shots out of my 1st bottle at about 5-7 seconds per shot. I've noticed some pinging on the 87 octane, so i moved to 91 and the pinging completely went away.

Great thread. This is one of those things you think about but with so few trying the squeeze it's hard to go that way. Kudos for trying it out and letting us know your results. A real public service.

I'm not one to browse threads just to call people out on their mistakes, but...

My father has been a Red-Seal J-man electrician since I was born (40yrs ago). No electrical connection is as strong (or provides less resistance) than soldering... None.

Also, in my 2yr "automotive parts & service tech" course in College, my instructors (plural) all had the same opinion...

Oh I hate to do this. There are so many what if's here.

I'm 44 now and have made a living out of splices since I was a kid working for my Dad in his shop. I've heard of every claim and read many studies on mechanical bonds vs chemical or solder based bonds. What I have gathered from my practical experience is:
You are both right. And both wrong.

    1. Mechanical splices create a more resistance and oxygen free connection when done correctly. This usually requires sophisticated tooling and splices, and special care must be taken to keep everything clean and sealed afterwards.
I have some mil-spec crimping tools for this application. Cost is in the $100's and usually have ratcheting or sensor mechanisms that ensure the proper pressure has been created.

    2. Soldering is far more reliable, in performance and longevity than any poorly or improperly done crimp splice. Depending upon the solder components, and how well the flux vacates the joint , the results can vary. Of course these can be done poorly too. Not enough cleaning action, or cold solder joints are examples of this.

I love soldering my splices when I can. Every stereo I put in my own vehicles have soldered harnesses for example. I trust my soldering skills, over the results of a crimp. That said, when the application calls for it (pins on canon or circular connectors for example) then the tools come out.

I trust myself to solder. I solder everything in my truck and as far as solder joints never had one fail on me. I have had splices fail and just prefer not to use them. Like anything else it must be done correctly.

Headed to Pismo tomorrow. Refilled the tank. Bumped the NOS up to 75 shot. Stock plugs, stock timing. Let's hope the motor holds up.

Status report: blew through a full tank of nitrous at the dunes running 75 shot. The truck did well. It now competes with the razor XP 1000. They beat me off the line but I real them in toward the end of the strip.

Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.

The last system I ran had 2 5lb tanks with heaters, Got about 5 5-10 second runs at WOT.

How big of a bottle are you running?

I'm running a 10 pound tank. I got about 8 runs before it was empty. I think your estimate is about right.

Yeah I just read that, must have missed it earlier. But thanks for the reply :)

And that sounds about right because then I was running 75 shot. It wasn't on a Tacoma though.

Sounds fun, as long as you stay conservative at 55 shot I doubt you will ever have a problem!
