I finally ended up with NRG's on the truck. These C rated Ridge Grapplers ride really nice. Way softer than the E rated KO2's I had originally gone with.

While they use the same amount of material and weight between the C and E Ridge Grappler, I would have to imagine that Nitto did in fact change the construction of their C tire to make the sidewall softer.

After reading this ... I went ahead and ordered 285/70/17 SL. Hopefully it’s a good decision..

10k+ miles on mine so far and I’m still more than satisfied. The SL have been great on the highway compared the C rated KO2s they replaced. Still very quiet and haven’t gotten any louder (cross rotated them at 7500 miles). Dry traction has been fantastic, wet traction isn’t the best, but it’s been far better than both sets of KO2s I’ve had and these have done very well in light snow/ice this winter. I’ve also noticed they do a much better job of expelling small rocks from the tread than the KO2s.

    Working on it now....UNDER CONSTRUCTION
Its better to rotate every 5000 miles. I still haven't decided whether to put these on my 2014 or stick with the Trail Grapplers. I have these on my Tundra and they are nice. I stick with E rated. By the time I change my Trail Grapplers they will have almost 100000 miles on them.

I keep going back and forth between these and another set of duratracs.
I have almost 95k on my duratracs now and never have had a single problem...if I could get that out of the ridge graps like your trail graps have it would make the decision much easier.

Seems like I have read in numerous places that folks say the wet traction isn’t the greatest and that is 1 of 2 things holding me back from making a final decision on these.

Bro, if you really (figure of speech, not doubting you) got 95k miles out of a set of any tire I would not switch for all the gold in the world!!

If you got 95k miles on Duratracs then you have got to have set a record!

    97,571 to be exact.
Have had the same set on 2 Tacoma’s since late 2013
Given the age of the tire I feel they need to be replaced but could maybe go another 10-15k easy on them currectly

You should contact Goodyear! No shit, I would. Do you off road? Are they spirited miles?

I used to Offroad when I first got them.
So around May 2016 I had my first son and have only taken the truck to the beach since and a few times down dirt roads just to turn on the 4x4...but before that I would do a little off-roading but nothing like rock climbing....not much in FL but trails, mud, some old rock quarrys etc.
So basically from mid 2013-2016 were somewhat spirited miles.
May 2016 till now pretty much just driving 62 miles round trip daily to and from work on the highway.

Great story, thanks for sharing :fistbump:

To be honest, that's 100% more than I've been Offroad with either of my Taco's. :bananadead:

Well, I do know others that wheel with them and they all like them. Only one complained about premature wear. He lives in Cali and definitely puts his truck through the paces.

I've had them. I had a set on a Tundra I had, then a 4R. I was impressed. They would have never have lasted me past 60k.

However, by today's standards, that's a lot of miles for an aggressive tire like that.

The Ridge Grappler is a great tire. No doubt about it. Like you, I'm trying something new this time. I bought some S/T Maxx from another member. They only have 3k miles on them. I'm excited to try them out.

I thought it was a disappointment and asked why is the ride so much harsher than the mud terrains... BigOtires techs put 50 PSI. Dropped it to 35PSI now

This. Mine rode pretty harsh at anything over 32. I put them at 29 cold..let them warm up to 32. Ride is...better.

Hmm... I just checked mine the other day and they were between 33-34. I’m wondering if I shouldn’t drop them down closer to 30 and see if I notice a difference in the ride.
