Yup, bought this truck about a year ago. Love it! 24 Years and 261k miles young. Sold the regular cab to a guy our age a few blocks away, so I still see it a lot. He put a cap on it. Been trying to get him to join TW, but he doesn't seem interested.

    How have you been?

I am definitely game to meet up. Weekends are probably easiest for me, or if a weeknight it would have to be Edison after around 8 by the time me and the wife get home from work.

    Hey Everyone:

I was thinking about getting an ARB compressor and rear locker for my 2011 TRD sport DCSB. Anyone experienced on the forum willing to give me a hand on the project? I'm in Oakland, NJ. Let me know.

I'd also be interested in recommendations for shops as well. Thanks.

What I would do first is get in touch with ECGS and order from them. They'll install the locker into a new 3rd member and you can also regear with them, then you swap out your 3rd member for the new one, send in your old one then get a refund (around $250) .. then you need to find a place to install your comrpessor, install the switches, and route your hose to the third member... its an all day project for sure. The hardest part is finding a mounting area for the compressor and the wiring of it all.

I'm not saying they aren't great, but they do fail.

Compressed gas is on: submarines, strapped to the backs of divers and astronauts, air planes, cars, every mobile welding truck, almost every forklift, almost every RV, every BAR in America, every restaurant that has soda, almost every backyard grill in America.... the dangers of compressed gas is a joke especially Co2.

If your afraid of Co2 in a truck you must be mortified about the compressed gas in your welding tanks in your garage.....if the argon leaks it could suffocate everyone in the house....not to mention the other tank that is highly flammable potential grenade.

I did all of this back in NM and they were very nice on the phone and very helpful. I just gave them the full specs of my truck and what I was looking to do.

Cool. I'll check them out. Wouldn't it be pricey to ship a third member core back to them?

If I remember correctly it was paid by them, they give you a return slip. But already being on the east coast it'd be cheaper than sending it from NM.. It's been a little over a year since Ive done it.. but they credit you 250 if you send it back to them... They'll explain it all once you call for more info and what not.

Yes....or you can take your chances having some other shop set it up on your third, but I'd go with the pro's at ECGS.

Not sure about the locker install but I am sure any one could help with the compressor install... Its only a few wires really... My friend is a tech at the toyota dealer... Been there for only 4 years but I trust him with alot of shit on my truck... But I am pretty sure after taking the diff cover off there are only a few bolts in there actually holding the 3rd in there...

Installing the compressor is easy... Itd be drilling that hole into the diff housing that a shop would have to do, correct?

Which is not close? I know I have just about zero input with the gear and locker but I know my way around electrical enough that a compressor is easy to hook up... Power and ground is all it needs to turn on... Whatever else you do with the fittings and everything is what adds degree of difficulty... Never wired one to a truck but I had to help my friend rebuild his after we burned it out and the wire caught fire after it shorted... It wasn't that hard IMO

ahh dont drill into your 3rd member  :bananadead:

there is a nipple ready to go for the 3rd member. Nipple... lol

only drilling required would be your compressor to a place inside your engine bay.. or somewhere you can easily route your compressor hose to your 3rd member.. there are a lot of setups but the compressor in the engine bay is the common place and usually the safest... some people make brackets or they but it in their bed... but you need to find the way way to route the eltrical as well... my arb install is in my build thread... I think

When I did my rear locker ECGS was the cheapest price I got. They are the best customer service I have ever dealt with, bar none! The new 3rd member was at my door within 5 days. I am by no means a mechanic and I had no problem doing the install myself. All you have to do is unbolt the rear hubs from the axle housing, slide the axle shafts out just enough to clear the gears. Unbolt the driveshaft from the 3rd member, unbolt the 3rd from the axle housing and Clean the housing then RTV the gasket and reinstall.

It's not easy for this guy to say something good about a company, that's proof enough.

There is no diff cover dopey!
