Well considering I got 1.5 inch .120 wall DOM tube I don't think Ill need it for just having a roof top tent and a fire extinguisher on it...

@cynicalrider I plan to... Just need to drill the slidahs and modify my trans skid a little bit to get it on...

 

Why would you not tie all the cross bars to each other? You basically have 4 individual bars holding weight not one complete bed rack..

 

They are VERY stout... Fabio and I tried to even move them a little bit... They don't budge at all

At this point itd just be extra weight

 

Ant does excellent work.

 

Man knows what he is doing... Even if it was his first attempt... Only room for improvement... I wanna see him with a vendor badge one day lol

Looks like it was a good & productive weekend for most DB's. I even managed to get my lift put on today w/ alignment. Shit is AWESOME!!!!!

 

I can't wait to get all my stuff I need to install my lift... Including the lift itself LOL

 

Not true you're really stressing those welds with that moment. You'd be surprised how much force will be applied with the rtt on when you are driving highway speeds especially since your rack is so tall. I wouldn't risk it, you already have the steel. Also are you really concerned about adding a few more lbs .

 

+1 on cross bars

 

4-banger problems. But I agree that crossbars should be added as they'll greatly improve the structural rigidity of the rack.

Yea without the bars to tie them all together I wouldn't suggest you use it. Regardless of how "stout" the tube is or how good ant's welds are, it's not a complete bed rack yet. Even just 2 bars on top or 1 on each side would be a big improvement structurally. Or if you bolt a piece of sheet metal to the sides and mount rotopax cans or hi lift/shovel/axe... Something to tie it together.

Same reason people use blocking between floor joists and a ridge beam on roof joists. Yea the individual pieces are strong, but they're stronger when tied together. Look at any other bed rack out there and I'm sure you'll never see one that is built like yours.

 

Or just use a hole saw lol.

 

Not sure he has a drill, still needs holes in his frame for slider bolts
