Finished the Jerry can mount today. Made it to hold two cans and it's removable. Also made it so the cans are held it securely and lockable. Color matched it aswell to try to get out of my paint everything black rut I've been stuck in.

Steve I don't know alot but I do know that the guys in VA when Loco was making his bumper told him to mount the jerry cans as high as possible to avoid dragging it along the ground when coming off a steep obstacle or going onto one... are you worried about that?

Not really. I'd probably only put it on for long trips and Any trip that I would expect to need extra gas I would probably be far from civilization so I'd try to avoid obstacles that big. Plus it is pretty high. The tire is lower so hopefully that would take most of the hit if I did get in that situation. I'm tall so the camera angle may throw things off. It's very close if not he same height as the swing out on most aftermarket bumpers. And with anything there's a little trial and error. Everything is homemade so I'll test it and I can always move it

Don't explain yourself. The height is fine. That's from someone with a can mount not someone just randomly throwing out other people's information..

Agreed can mount will be fine departure angle wise.

Not just "throwing it out" im pretty sure it was @ckeene9's bumper they based it off of... And considering I don't think he has his jerry can mounts on the bumper anymore he removed them for that reason...

Plus id take their input to a build as much as id take any of the information you guys put out... But hey thats just me.

Where do you want him to put the fucking gas cans? They look like they're as high as they can be without them being above the top of the tailgate. Looks like same height as most.

My only issue is that it seems you didn't even look at the pics before explaining what other people have said.. When I was making my jerry can holder the Va. guys chimed in and said the same thing, which is why I went sideways single can instead of double. But how often do you try to go vertical? I'm working on making a double right now. Steve's mount is at a nice height, by the pic it looks at or higher than the spare. Your saying mount as high as possible to avoid dragging for no reason.. It looks as high as possible to me, so why would he be concerned bout it? Again your response is as if he mentioned making a Jerry can holder, not the fact that it's done and there are pictures.

Your like the little brother I never wanted. Just trying to help you out, just throughly check out pics and think about the senario before you ask people questions about things you've heard from other people.

To me it looks like they are about the same height... Maybe Steves are 1-2 inches higher...

I don't have pictures of @loco's jerry can mounts but I saw his idea in person before it go welded up before Moab last year...I believe Phils mount was a good 6 inches, maybe even more, higher than the 2 pictured above...

Im not trying to argue with you Jay but unless im blind you are not picking up what I am putting down.

There is virtually no difference in height between the 2.

Steve could easily move the mount higher by adding another piece of steel lower inbetween the top and bottom existing mounts and it would move the holder up and still have 4 points of contacts for a sturdy mount.

I mean I know some of you don't like me but you don't have to be 2 faced about it... I won't lose sleep over not being liked for chiming in... When my thought is logical...

Might as well just spit in my face

But it doesn't need to be. Why would he make it higher than the spare already is if the spare is already going to hit first? If the angle is that steep than his bumper is going to drag first then his tire but it's not going to keep him from not being able to accomplish an obstacle. Don't worry one day you'll see what it's like to wheel real trails where any of this shit even fucking matters anyway.
