Just going off of what I read on the forum w/ the rust issues. I don't have any factual info. Nothing as solid as "Cars built after 08 are only designed to last a few years" which goes against every single expert in the automotive industry that says cars are on the road longer than every before. But what do I know, I'm just a VP of an Auto company that is effected by the fact that cars don't fucking break anymore.

Even if I had the world's worst pizza, I could never not have pizza again. IDGAF if it makes me sick for a week, I am having pizza again.

    You saying gen 1s aren't reliable? o_O
Or are they just too old now to not be reliable? :D

Failed to mention that my frame rotted out completely and was replaced last year. But that was the case for '05 to '09 I believe.
Other than that, my '05 has had zero issues. Except of course for the damn temp and compass resistor problem.

No, no. But the frame rot issue would def. give them a black mark. What I'm saying is, one can't state the tacoma to be the almighty reliable truck out there when they were literally crumbling to shit.

The same frame rot that applies to 2nd gens you mean? And more than likely 3rd gens?

We already determined it applies to 2nd gens.

Yeah them poor frames :( Mine is in good shape, and I treated it before last Winter. I should probably do this this year as well (and every year in the future), but it doesn't look like I'll be doing it. My undercoating looks pretty nice still, so I will see how it fares for a second Winter.
But yeah praising Tacomas like they are flawless is biased and inaccurate.

^ but yeah this. It may have been worse or more prevalent on 1st gens (but I don't even know if that's true). but it's been on all Tacomas thus far. They are great trucks, but Toyota just cannot fucking get the frames right.

My 03 that's been through 14 PA winters has yet to rot through.

Hopefully it does it this year though, cuz I want a free frame.

I don't want to be stuck in a loaner for 8 months. One thing I enjoy in life is my truck.

I wish I could wish for frame rot this year. But the neglectful original owner never brought it in for inspection :annoyed: So it's up to me to keep it going.

For real though. I have been without my truck only a few days right now, and I miss it. Granted, I don't even have a rental, so I am borrowing someone else's to get to work but still. I couldn't imagine being without it for an indefinite amount of time.

Bite your tongue. Your frames rotted faster than gen 1's some how. :p

Truth. But at least Toyota owned up to it and corrected the problem. The thing I like about Toyota's is that I will never be concerned about drivetrain. Got 212k on my first gen and the motor's still going strong. Transmission too. But that doesn't mean we won't have our own weird issues, bugs etc. Everyone will find something to complain with somewhere. BMW's are known for being maintenance money pits but my 325xi went to 194k with no real issues. Only did basics like tie rods, cv's once, a fuel pump once, and brakes.

Yeah, I know. Unless it's been allowed to go too far, frame issues can be addressed. But unless you wanna swap sheet metal panels, you can't so easily put patches on a body.
