    I have a 2gal gas rotopax and locking mount for sale. 100$ brand new never used. Taking it off the rack no need for it rn.

    I have 285s now, just wondering if I would save some mpg with the 255s. Im averaging 14-15 right now in a 4 banger

    4 banger as well. I went from a very aggressive 285 to the 255 st maxx. It's hard to say if it's the tyre size it's self or the less aggressive tread but I did gain around 2 mpg on average. Also I noticed the little engine was more willing to stay in 5th gear on long hills in the highway. Again not 100%sure if that's the less aggressive tread or the narrower tire or both but it was slightly noticeable. One down side is the 255's were slightly taller and heavier so off the line acceleration suffered a minute amount but I drive a dump truck all day so it's still acceptable to me. I also prefer the Offroad abilities and snow performance of the skinny tyre but again not sure if it's a size thing or a tread pattern thing.

    I always assumed wider was better offroad actually, thats interesting. what was the 285 you had?

    Wider is better in some situations like sand or deep snow. Skinny is good because there is more pressure per square inch of tread equaling more traction/ molding of the tire to the ground, atleast that's the theory. Most of the wheeling I do is rocky dirt and woods with a lot of unmaintained dirt roads mixed in. Also quite a few miles of highway in between so I opted for the less aggressive skinny. My previous tyres where 285/75-16 fierce attitude m/t off of my f250. They were also an awesome tyre for farm work and muddy fields with that truck and also great on the taco. The issue was the taco sucked in the snow with them because it was much lighter than the f250. That's another reason I went skinny.

    Wider is better in most low traction situations. In rocks, a wider tire gives you a bigger footprint, and therefore more grip. Light snow a narrower tire is better. Deep snow wider is best(very aired down and with low gearing to avoid digging). In mud, skinny is better to dig down to hard ground underneath, unless it is very deep mud, then wider and high wheel speed will help you float on top.
    Skinnier tires will always deliver better highway mileage due to less rolling resistance, weight, and wind resistance.
