    I'm bored as well trying to torque my front end.

    Didn't fucking know that I had to do a calculated torque conversion when using a Crow's Foot or Torque Wrench Adapter (pictured and labeled again for @V5ioV benefit. LOL)

    This front wheel bearing bolt is a good example: I've been torquing with a crows foot to what I thought was 59 ft-lbs. but with the added length of a 1.25 inch crows foot, I've actually been torquing to 64.

    With a 2" torque adapter, I need to set my torque value to 52 ft-lbs to get the actual torque of 59.

    And, the torque value is different if you use any extension adapter/crows foot at a different angle as well. The torque conversion calculator that I linked allows for that angle.

    Don't take this the wrong way...

    You are way to fucking anal about torque specs. Im a mechanic and do this shit for a living... at no point will you ever have to worry about torquing something too much on this truck unless you are doing an engine teardown and rebuild and even then this isn't a diesel and there fore you have nothing to worry about since diesels require higher torque values on alot of their bolts.

    The head studs on the Caterpillar 3412 get torqued to 400+ ftlbs using a 4 foot torque wrench... any time you have a higher torque value than 175 do you really have to worry about adding length to a torque wrench or adding an extension bigger than 3 inches.... this isn't reinventing the truck in a different way this is replacing parts. While its always good to make sure torque is correct there are way too many variables when torquing to worry about getting EXACT. More torque the better plus 10 ft lbs is even ok... its when torque is less than the required value that you run into an issue.

    Dirty threads... even the most minute amount of dirt can change the torque value and thread stretch and engagement.

    Out of calibration torque wrench... the slightest drop or bump could knock it out of calibration.

    Double torquing (where you get a click and then give it another click just incase) that extra click is actually 1 extra foot pound

    I hope you don't take my response the wrong way.

    Not fucking anal. But there's a good reason why correct torque is spec'd by manufacturers.

    As a professional mechanic, based on your statements below, you don't show much knowledge of the importance of proper torquing of fasteners.
    My 40 year career is in a field/industry that controls, calibrates and QC's everything you can imagine. So I do this shit for a living as well.
    AND I've been doing this for more years than you have been on this earth.

    This is a stupid statement. You ALWAYS have to worry about over and/or under-torquing any fastener, no matter what application it's being used: Diesel engines, gasoline engines, delicate or precision machines/instruments, etc. Good examples are when you want evenly distributed torqued fasteners to avoid warping or dishing rotors, oil pans, covers, etc. There are many other good examples. So far, you've been giving bad, generalized examples.

    This is where you truly shine in your so called Coast Guard "mechanics knowledge." The added length and possible changed angle that I have been referring to, by using a Crow's Foot or a Torque Wrench Adapter, is NOT to gain extension for additional torquing leverage. These handy tools are used to gain access to difficult to reach fasteners that a torque wrench can't reach or has limited space. As I have just recently discovered, when you do use these tools for better access, the torque value changes, because of the lever length change, and you have to manage that properly.

    Never said i wanted exact torque values. But I wanted reasonably close values. And yes, understanding those many variables will help achieve those reasonably close torque values.


    This is ABSOLUTELY THE DUMBEST STATEMENT I've seen from you. I think I'll put this on my signature.

    Which is why any one properly trained will try to properly clean fastener threads.

    I take back my previous callout of dumbest statement. This is even DUMBER. Maybe I'll put both of your dumb-ass statements on my TW signature.

    Where the hell did you get the additional 1 ft-lb for an additional click. Did you pull that number out of your ass?
    If you add more torque after the "click," it could be ANY additional torque amount, not a fixed incremental 1 ft-lb. An extra 1 click on a 12" torque wrench might be vastly different than an extra 1 click" on a torque wrench with a 4 foot lever arm.

    Sad, sad, sad how the U.S. Coast Guard trains their youngsters nowadays. Hopefully you're not an aircraft mechanic.
