Not to continue this wonderful convo, but.....
When exactly did we go from a torque range to a actual number? I remember everything I worked on from vehicles to machinery having a torgue range, i.e. 87-92 ftlbs. Now we are given an actual number like 93ftlbs. When this change, and why?

And the best ones are "x" ftlbs plus 60*. I still dont get thst shit. Just give me the torque value.

    God if you only knew.

Go and ask how many mechanics actually torque things to the required spec EVERY time.

If you get your wheels rotated theyll put em back on with 2 uggah duggahs.

The only time torque has to be EXACT is with precision instruments engines and differentials. And like I said you will never be 100% accurate because no torque wrench is the same and they wear out from factory. 59 ftlbs vs 64 ftlbs is not anything to be worried about. Especially when both are above he value needed to keep your shit together

That x plus 60* is for a torque to yeild bolt. My VW has lots of them. Its to get the correct stretch on it. No clue why.

I was waiting for you to say that.
WRONG. Any TTY bolt can only be used once. These torque values have been used on bolts that are not TTY. On my son's VW, wife's Honda, other son's Chevy, etc.

Turns out I am actually wrong. TTY bokts have about 6 rundowns (i.e. tightened to torque) in them. But in thecase of engine or tranny bolts, they run them down four times at the factory. So.you can reuse them once. Torque to Turn is actually a more exact method of acheiving bolt stretch as it eliminates variables to the resistance of bolt turning.

My VW only the TTY bolts get extra turns. Head bolts on atleast the Cat 3412 get a 1/4 turn extra. No clue why but those bolts are reuseable but the TTY bolts I don't trust... my TTY bolts snapped because they got reused by the dude who did the timing belt.

    Dick...

This is a good example for the need to torque fasteners correctly. The single Uggah Duggah from my massive, non-spindly arms failed. I love teaching by example. LOL.

Hunter has been a "mechanic" for what now? 2 years?(if that) He knows it ALL

Oh wait, he has been sucking Ant's cock for 4 years, and he's an engineer so that gives Hunter 6 years of know it all experience....

Oh wait, Hunter takes in knowledge through his mouth?
And stoopid shit comes out of his mouth?

Let me do a quick calculation:
4 years of ccksucking knowledge gained minus 2 years of stoopid knowledge lost = 2 years of net knowledge/experience?

Maybe I'm wrong and Hunter's "mechanic" experience IS vast at 2 years.

@stairgod - please check my math
