Which bearing? 3rd gens are known for bad rear diffs but I feel like it would be far before or far after a loft... not as soon as its installed.

 

I put this in the PA thread but figured I'd put it up here as well. Anybody ever do a rear wheel bearing? I thought my seal was leaking because it appeared to be wheeping oil into the drum. But when I put my third member in yesterday I found a spring from a seal in my rear end. And the driver side bearinghad some dirt/rust in it. It's not making any noise and there is no play. But in two weeks I have a good trip planned and don't want to be stuck on the side of the road somewhere. Pressing the old one off and the new one on concerns me. I found this. It would end up a dirty chocolate milk color of cloudy if it's been in there long enough to have gotten hot and "mixed" with the oil.

EDIT: I googled it to see if google had accurate picture and it does. Just google "water in motor oil" and you'll see what it would look like if you've been getting water in the diff

 

I guess would be front bearing (closest to flange) would/can promote play and therefore vibes

 

Me too (learned) except I took forever to do and probably 1 of the reasons for premature diff problems for me

 

Hey @Blackout14 and @Tatts521 - you guys gotta do the diff breather mod pretty soon. Might save you from possible future diff problems.

 

Dan do you have a HF press? The easiest way to press it off is build a jig out of an old toyota axle. I took mine to a local machine shop I trust for them to press it on and off. I did however press the retainer and tone ring on myself because you need it in the perfect position for the axle seal to work.

 

I really ought to do the breather mod too. Meant to a while back and forgot.

 

any mod days planned for near future? I am still needing to do breather and fogs anytime mod

 

The only press I have is a bfh haha. I'm gonna call the stealership later to see if they would do it if I brought it in. Plus idk if I'm gonna do the bearing definitely need the seal may just hold off on the bearing.

 

I'm hearing that welding glasses should work for viewing the Total Eclipse. Can you guys confirm?

 

What about auto-dimming?

 

Could be. When I put my Prinsu on and had the wind deflector a little too high, it shook my truck more than you'd believe probably.

If you took that hideous bumper off and it went away, it COULD be the way it goes through the air.

NASA recommends 12 or higher so i'm good at shade 13

 

My mask is set at 12 and I always pre check my stepping outside and looking up at the sun and then to the ground and then up again. I've never noticed a blurry purple spot from doing it so I'd feel confident with 12. I do this because I've had my selector turned off before and started welding and was in for a rude surprise, lol

 

Jimmy has a fucked up welding helmet that did not dim for me. Ran a few beads before I realized it. Doh!
