You didn't notice the extreme light flash at the START of your FIRST bead?

 

Just seemed to me that I had it adjusted too low. Old eyes. Everything seems dark anymore.

 

Damn. After reading this, I pulled out the instruction manual for my new Hobart auto-dim mask. I'm glad I did.

I didn't know there were adjustments knobs inside the helmet.

For the eclipse, I adjusted from shade 8 to shade 13.

Should I adjust the delay to a full 1 second? What should I adjust the sensitivity?

 

Keep the sensitivity as high as you can. And the delay as short as possible

I'd rather just not see it than find out I was wrong about how dark I should have went.

 

NASA was right.

Shade 12 and 13 worked perfectly.

They should know. They have rocket scientists down there.

 

@Subway4X4 i believe the delay is how long the lense stays dark after you stop welding. It's useful because even after you stop the hot metal can still be bright as fcuk

 

Never had an issue with using lowest delay setting. Then again I am not welding at 300 amps either.
With my helmet set at most sensitive, if I look up at my shop lights, it dims.

 

This is what I did... worked fine....
Shade was @ 12-13 but did lower it a bit while cloudsince pass in front of it

 

Yea being super sensitive never hurts. I think (atleast on my helmet) the shortest delay setting is half a second and the longest is a full second so it really doesn't make a difference. I also usually flip the helmet up as soon as I'm done so it doesent even help me hahaha

I looked at it in the beginning and the again at the end. ( welding helmet)guess what it was just like every eclipse I had ever seen on tv. No very impressive.

 

Remember the one in the early 90s? I was doing tree work for Asplundh at the time near Quakertown.
Was basically twilight in the middle of the day for a bit. Anti-climactic.

 

I'll get it done when I get a chance. Been working like a slave. 6days last week looks like it's gonna be a 7day week

 

@Blackout14 although I'm trying to save money for my Colorado trip. I'm not doing Moab but will be heading to Utah via Colorado
