I heard he had one of those fold up little motorcycles to get him home if shit got that bad.

 

It's cause of @Fifthwind that I carry a full engine's worth of oil on me. Not a bad idea to carry those seals, that way if you bust a CV on the trail and your seal was also shot you can do both at the same time and save yourself double work. But not critical at the same time.

 

It's a carryover from the pre-armor days, and I nearly stopped hauling around all that fluid when @HomerTaco proved that anything can go wrong at the worse possible moment.

 

Yup. Another good reason is if you need to do a drain and fill after you take on/stall in water. My OSK is pretty expansive now short of carrying a spare third.

 

I only carry the engine block. I can always pull the engine parts from a shot engine and transfer to the new block

 

Make sure you account for all shafts

 

Floyd is so awesome that he wheels in 3x so that the rest of us feel worthy to share the same trails.

Just another example of Murphy’s Law. Fortunately for me we were able to glue her back together and I made it home safely.
I’ve added a few items to my parts-box because of that incident too.

Served me well on the last trip out west when I lost two pullies on the way home. I only lost about 2 hours or so of travel time having the parts I needed with me.

 

The best part about all of us wheeling together is what we learn in the process through each of our breakages including what spare parts to carry, and how to get home or to a parts store if you don't have the spare parts you do need. Shit between that day and the day you and Ant busted a front diff and a rear axle in the same weekend, I learned a lot. Most of the guys I ran the Kokopelli with said they didn't bother packing the spare parts because they said they knew I would have anything they needed.

 

Funny, I thought of Ant the same way. Probably why I still don’t have a winch... he’s either pulled me out or used me as an anchor to pull himself out...

I don’t know. Was just messing with the t shirt thing my wife has. Thought it was a simple cool design.

 

Neat but doesn’t match my shift pattern.
