Not mine, sorry. Island Toyota in Staten Island, NY had issues that I had some mus, scrapes and scratches on underbody.... Can't imagine them not asking silly questions

 

I might need a new driver side lca. Where should I buy from that stocks them

I think I have two OEM ones boxed away. Had two sets, sold one, can't remember if they're the set that needs new bushings or the good set. I'll check tomorrow and let you know, if that helps.

What makes you think you need a new one? Isn’t your truck relatively new?

 

Last off road trip smack the fuck of my lca been squeaking since then.ive done everything possible to get it from that. Pretty positive it's the cause of it

 

Due to financial issues, decided to just go ahead and re gear since I won't be able to swap in d60s for a bit. Anyone think 5.29s will be too much with a 6 spd manual? Gonna buy new shoes either 35 or 36". @cynicalrider any regrets?

 

4:88 for auto 2nd gen V6 on 35’s.

 

I got a m/t. I'd rather sacrifice highway speeds and crawl a little better up the rocks

 

Plus I been towing a trailer with two snowmobiles almost every weekend up the mountain and could use the torque

 

You will hate life if you go higher than 4.56 gearing with a manual trans. Even 4.88 is too much.

You wanna crawl? Do dual cases.

 

I love my 5.29's but IIRC the final drive ratio for you guys are much much different from ours. At 75 mph my rpms are in the 3500 range, I would not want that any higher. Gotta defer to the 2nd gen guys for that one, sorry Ryan.

 

I would not go down this path with a 2nd Gen taco. The power train is not designed for this and spinning the 4.0 at 3000 to 4000 rpms on the highway will produce a ridiculous amount of waste heat. Homer is right on this:

Based on what you stated, I would have a smaller diameter set of tires for towing, and toss the larger set on the trailer, then have the crawl box for serious crawling. The alternative is adding a large fuel tank to the trailer.
The Taco 4.0 set up is under-appreciated for the amount of power and torque it delivers at low rpm, but that comes at the price of high losses at high rpm.

 

Do you know the model your transmission is. Example mine is a R155f

That trans is super similar to mine. Here is an awesome reference for figuring this kinda junk out. @Sub-Zero play with this a little and it will give you a good idea what you wanna do.

Enter your trans, transfer case, gear ration and tire size and it gives you crawl speeds and highway speeds and rpms formeach gear. It’s pretty neat.

 

^^^ what Steve said, I've had a lot of people with jeeps come to me looking to regear with no idea what ratio to go to and this is an awesome tool to use to help them sort it out
