I’d appreciate your guys thoughts here...

I’ve basically disassembled my entire front end, replacing upper and lower ball joints (Moog), inner and outer tie rod ends (Moog), CV axles (new from Napa) all due to NY rust.

My new to me truck has a new frame but the front has clearly seen 15 years of NY salt.

While I’m in here should I just go ahead and get new bearings pressed in? If so does anyone have a relatively quick source for quality bearings?

Truck only has 63k on it FWIW.


Also, is there anything else you guys would do while you’re in here?

Are you replacing lca bushings while you are at it too? I would.... like this you basically fresh to socks

 

Aren't the lcas replaced with the frame swap? @avw4x4 I'd at least make sure all the lca alignment cams and bolts are well greased.

 

It’s a little hard to tell. Based on the condition of the LCA’s vs the UCA’s I’d guess they were replaced with the frame.

And good call, I was considering replacing the alignment cams and bolts with greasable ones too.

Also eyeing the JBA UCA’s... money tree is getting a bit sparse though

 

Keep the oem cam bolts. The greasable ones are garbage

At 63k, no those bearings have a good 150k left on them, don’t bother.

Should have gotten new lca’s with the frame so you are good there, just anti-seize the hardware. Oem hardware is best there. Biggest thing to watch for on our trucks are lower ball joints, and you should go oem. They typically can last 100k or so though. Get new bolts if you replace them. Lbj failure on a first gen can mean a new spindle, cv, and steering rack if it goes.
