    Exactly this. Radio Direction finding is an art, and a sport. Check out radio fox and hound games.

    The HAM community is very protective of thier bandwidth, and lifestyle. And the FCC also takes it very seriously, especially in the commercial bands. They charge 100s of millions for licenses in some bands, you can't do that if there are pirate transmissions screwing up the liscensed user.

    One Sunday last year in AOAA we tagged along with a group of 4Runners, they were all using 22 channel walkies. But I think they came from VA, MD... So maybe that trend didn't make it that far NE yet, lol
