Haha holy shit. Nope, can’t lend my trailer out for a trip like that. Not even sure it would be big enough.

Did you have to swap your tires to fit through the garage door?

Is the spare tire slot big enough to fit next years tires when you decide these aren’t big enough? :p

I did not. Just using the baby tires as Rollers until I get all the Beadlocks welded up.

I DID have to air down to get in the garage on 35s when I had the Prinsu with the Pelican up top.

You should know by now, I don’t plan a whole YEAR ahead...

The 37 JUST fits through the rear uprights. I have to wiggle it and force it through.

BUT... any larger, and it gets into not having a spare on the truck I think.

Isn’t this what build threads are for? Not saying I don’t enjoy the show but I miss the detailed show that used to be in your build. :boink:

Question as to the engineering design of this flat bed.

Disclosure: No dickery here, just an open question on a public forum of pictures your posting in you build.. I mean NJ Thread.

It caught my eye early on to all the square toob openings.. I figured your gonna fill them in but why not design it from the get go to be closed where they can. Like 45°s at the corners near the cab and the outer rail be one full piece and measure the supports inside to inside? I’m no engineer but I feel like structurally it would be better/stronger to have less joints, welds, pieces to the flatbed..

    Also no engineer here...
The way you are saying reduces the amount of welds but "maybe" reducing butting ends welds makes up for an overall stronger disign.....

    Like maybe this is better:

    Vs

    This:

    Also very curious.

I'm not sure it makes any difference. The amount and size of tube he's using is so overkill for the application that any method will work.

Wow. I never took you for a bully Jay :(

I have an actual flatbed welder engineer working with me on this. Thanks.

    :D

I could’ve made the cross bars 3” shorter and had the side pieces one piece. I thought about that after.

As far as strength? Once it’s fully welded, I don’t think it really makes a difference.

The side openings will be fully welded, then a rectangle 1/8” cap will go over to tie it all together.

The rear tube will be cut off at the same angle as the side piece and capped.

I’ll add inside corner gussetts later.

Aesthetically, I’m not too concerned. I mean, I’m building it to be dragged across trees and rocks after all.

Macro? I obviously don’t want the bed to look totally stupid.

Micro? Not sweating the small details.

Now, stop cluttering up my build thread with your dickeryness . GEESH!

As far as strength I don’t feel there is a difference either, your technically comparing strong vs stronger... they both strong.

I know you don’t care bout esthetics.. but the idea is work smarter not harder :D

Technically, as long as the welds are done correctly they are stronger than the base material so on paper moär welds equools stronger
