Been having issues shifting for a week or 2 now, finally just couldn’t put it in gear at all, it would crawl with my foot to the floor on the clutch in first gear. My brother came to help me flush the fluid and hoped that would fix it but no dice and couldn’t drive it home. I’m thinking I’m likely gonna need a clutch job, if that’s the case this luk clutch lasted me not even 4 years.

    Order I would do
1-rotate tires and see if vibe changes

2- Check for play in ujoints and transfer case and Pinion

3- remove the rear driveshaft and drive in 4wd for a day and see if vibe goes away.

    It's getting there.
I've done a tire rotation since the lift, no change.

I was just under the truck looking at stuff/ fluid filming/ oil change and I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary, but I didn't really yank on drivetrain components.

That seems weird, but maybe I'll try it on a saturday.

    This may be what happens.

That’s another thing, people have had low transmission fluid and low rear diff fluid from factory. Maybe you should give those a check. Some people say they added some oil here or there and didn’t have any problems anymore.

Did you try to re-grease your driveshaft by chance?

yeah, I hit all the zerks I could find back in December when I did the oil change and fluid film. On 3rd gens one of the shafts doesn't even have grease fittings. I think on newer 3rd gens there are no driveshaft zerks.

No expert here but I’d question the clutch master or slave cylinder first. If she’s moving I don’t think your clutch is actually burnt out. Been wrong before though :notsure:

Yep sounds like a master or slave cylinder or a broken clutch fork.

The 16s should have 5 zerk fittings. 3 on the rear driveshaft and 2 on the front. I greased all 5 of mine about a month ago

I’m pretty sure that I don’t have them on the front. I don’t remember 5. I know it actually varies by what month your truck was built. I’m gonna look it over again this weekend.

The newer trucks have no zerks, but the 16s definitely had 5. Because in 17-18 they sealed the rear driveshaft and left only 2 on the front drive shaft. The connections aren’t in the same spot on the spider as the rear driveshaft, they’re kinda hidden between the yoke and the spider

Either way, the front driveshaft only spins when 4wd is engaged so it’s not the cause of the vibration. You can spin it by hand if your truck is just parked in 2wd

So since you guys are talking about manny tranny’s...

My father in law just bought a 2007 wrangler 4 door with the plan of building it up so he can go wheeling.

The day he picked it up, he almost made it home and then it felt like it popped out of gear. He pulled over to the side of the road, started out in 1st again and just heard grinding and it wouldn’t move. Tried other gears and reverse, and same thing. Tried 4hi, made no difference.

I know very little about manual transmissions, so I don’t really know what it could be. Anyone have any suggestions?

He’s thinking at this point, to pull the trans and take it to a transmission shop and have them rebuild it and put a heavy duty clutch in it.

How’d you know they were bad? I have no leaks but when we flushed the fluid the pedal went really soft.

Took a look at the truck, turns out the clutch fork is broken, I guess Ill replace that and the throw out bearing.

Grinding while in gear or grinding while trying to put it into gear?

Grinding putting it into gear is likely the synchros. Grinding in gear...well...yeah.... Either way that thing it gonna have to be opened up.

Where's he located? I've used a shop in Forked River that does really solid work without breaking the bank.
