mine did not show any leaking , I do believe internal plunger was allowing fluid to bypass it self causing loss of hydraulic action.

He said he tried putting it in 4 wheel to see if that made a difference. I thought about that too though.. if the transfer case shifter is in neutral, it won’t move.. but the noise is associated with clutching and shifting the transmission.

Screw down this roof rack or not? Feel like I’m gonna rip it off on a low branch but I want to build an awning that attaches to it.

(Excess rubber spacer for roof hump needs to be trimmed off)

Roof racks suck. My roof is dented due to mine. I took that shit off. Awnings are nice for sure... maybe you could make some sort of fold out mount that flips up out of the bed?

I’m a big fan of roof racks. I don’t know how I feel about that one though. I’ve had 2 different style Thule racks and a platform style rack. The platform was nice for stuff like hi lift jack, traction mats, miscellaneous stuff of different sizes, a heavy load of lumber, etc
The cross bar style racks are better for kayaks/canoes, roof top tents, lighter stuff that won’t bow the cross bars.

Both are easy enough to attach an awning with L brackets and hose clamps.

Cross bars that extend past the roof edge, and have clamps that mount in the door frame, are easily removed if you ever find yourself too close to a tree. Or if you just don’t want the rack on all the time/don’t want to drill holes in the roof, etc

This rack came off my old 4runner. Don't think this project is important enough for me to actually spend money on a new roof rack.

What Josh said. That rack looks a bit anemic.

Drop the coin for a Thule setup that'll clamp to your roof and doorframe. Plenty strong for whatever you want to put up there, removable, and won't damage your truck.

Do it, you need all the storage help you can get. I am hoping to get a prinsu one day to house a plano with recovery gear on one side, and tred's on the other. I think it should hold up just fine. My CB antenna was holding on by one bolt in thin sheet metal on the last trip to bald eagle, and it sticks up way high and hit a ton of branches. I think it would hold up better than you think with several bolts holding it in.

For what it’s worth, letgo and craigslist often have used Thule or Yakima racks for sale. The one on my truck right now cost me $120

It just occurred to me that I can screw the rails down and the cross bars will slide all the way off if i want to remove them.
