Yeah inspections are a joke nowadays. Everyones always like "You should get your windshield fixed or else you'll fail inspection" . I just laugh.

I think a cracked windshield gives a truck that sense of overland character that most of us only desire to achieve. My Ford has a cracked windshield, it adds to the style points :bananadance:

its all about who you know here... and i know NJ is very much like NY, and really nation wide i bet is the same shit

my mechanic/ state inspector busts my balls about my tints, and he is right my tints fail me....

but really any mechanic should busts balls about anything and everything on the list of pass/fails criteria...

you just gotta lube the hand that feeds you, i think is how the only saying goes... not that tough, just a quick rub and tug goes a long way

Some cars I see need a little more than a rub and tug to pass

I miss NJ inspections- every 2 years, free, drive right through. PA is yearly, costs money, and they look over your vehicle for hours and inevitably find something that needs to be fixed.

Easy solution there just keep the vehicles registered in NJ, and live in PA. Best of both worlds.

I miss the days when my trucks were registered in Montana. Maintained an address there for 8 years after I left. Legalities aside, NO INSPECTION and PERMANENT REGISTRATION! Now that’s the shit. Even registered my old tundra by mail when I purchased it in NY.
If you set up a business in a state you can then register vehicles to the business address, totally legal.

Another way to be legally exempt from safety/emissions inspections in NJ is registering as a collector vehicle. I did that with my S-10. You get a triangle shaped sticker and don't have to pass any tests, they just check your odometer to make sure you didn't drive more than 3k miles that year.

Hmmm never heard of that. If you register to a NJ address there would still be a premium?

Isn't insurance based on where the car is registered?

I've had Montana plates and NY insurance before, I did have to check some box about the NY address being non-perminent, and they ask you to update it constantly. My dad for years had an Alaskan driver's license with a PA address... not sure how that one works??

I don’t believe so. It would be based on where you live, I don’t think you have to have a car registered in your name in order to insure it, so in theory a person other than the insurer could have it registered in their name and live in a different state. I’m not positive on that though.
