Must be a trend with dodges. I had to recover a friend’s charger. Had to put a strap around the LCA because there was nothing else.

He drove to the beach to take some night pictures and thought he was on a sand covered parking lot.. turned out it was just sand. Ended up with a $500 fine too

Ah I misread, I thought they were off roading a Corolla, not just driving around in the snow lol

Not at all, but I'll feel less pity for someone who does and get's stuck because they and their vehicle are not prepared.

Well that was a waste of a trip. DCH decided to not disclose what appears to be a blatant issue with the rear differential. The rear end binds when taking a sharp turn if it’s in 4H or 2H. Never even messed with 4L. Tried different settings within the vehicle and it was glaringly obvious that the rear is messed. It’s not a CPO, probably for this reason, and was too good to be true. I finish the “test drive” and then tell them about the issue and just got a “oh yeah that’s not normal, well it’s going to take a while to get that looked at so we will get back in touch; sorry you had such a drive down to see the vehicle”. No attempt to actually show concern or surprise that this was being brought up. Fuck that place and I feel bad for the person that gets burnt on that 4Runner.

sorry you had a shitty experience.. but in my experience that’s how any dealership is. I looked at a used tundra and called them out on it having a broken leaf spring and they basically said I was full of shit.

but you said it was binding in 4hi.. that IS normal.. was it binding in 2hi all the time, or just when you switched out of 4hi until the transfer case unlocked?

not saying you don’t know what you’re talking about.. more that I’m just curious.

Sorry working night shift tonight so I’m on an opposite schedule.

To some degree I expected some binding in 4H although my 99 4Runner can drive in 4H without binding at all on dry pavement. It would do it regardless of the amount of time it was in 2H or 4H. Plus it was a slush day and so to some degree i would expect to have some give in the back end. If it was dead dry pavement I could see it more.

I was thinking about going to the local stealer and driving another SR5 and seeing if I could replicate the binding again.

But for education purposes, why does it experience binding in 4H when the rear isn’t locked?

When you turn the front tires travel in a larger arc than the rear tires, therefore covering more ground, kinda like people running high school track, the person on the outside lane has to go farther than the person on the inside lane even though they are making the same turn. When you put a vehicle in 4 hi, the front and rear tires are force to go the same speed, but since they are traveling different distances they begin to fight each other, aka bind. That being said the differences are minimal so it’s really only noticeable making fairly tight turns

Mehh I bought my truck from dch freehold. And they are scumbags we agreed on a price and brought the paper work to my sister she sells cars for bmw. She looked over the paper work and saw that they raised the price by 5k trying to get over on me. But I'm sure it might have changed since then who knows bought the truck back in 2012.

so you dealt with what, a salesman and a sales manager? But because of your experience the whole group of people are scum bags? lol.

The more the salesman gets out of you, the higher their commission. That’s why sites like true car exist. To help level the playing field.

and how did you not catch a $5k charge yourself?

Steve did a good job explaining it. I’ll just add that when the rear is locked, the binding is between the two rear tires. When it’s in 4Wheel, the binding is between the front and rear tires.

4 wheel and rear locker, you better not try turning on dry pavement lol.

the reason an AWD car is able to drive on pavement is a viscous coupler in the trans allows for slip between the front and rear, while still applying power to front and rear.

First time I ever bought a vehicle from a dealership didnt know what I was looking at. I'm not saying all dealerships are scumbags.
