if you use a high quality, undamaged cable and bury it in a bed of sand, and don’t dig into it, it can last a long time.

the problem with older underground developments is over the years people put up fences, plant landscaping, other utilities get installed or replaced, and that may damage the cable all at once, or it can damage the insulation and now moisture gets in and deteriorates the wire.

Or, in new underground developments, the contractors installing the cable pull it off the reel and drag it down the street, then backfill the trench with whatever is around. Rocks, construction debris, etc. Most of the new underground developments wind up with service faults before the homes even sell.

Without going into too much more detail I’m sure you can imagine how much easier and faster it would be to fix a wire that you can actually see.

Edit: that’s assuming direct burial services, if it’s run in conduit it has its own scope of issues, and can’t be fixed. If cable goes bad in conduit, it has to be pulled out and new cable pulled in.

last I heard the life expectancy is only like 50 years. And there’s no plan in place to change out old cables.

Don't do it unless your deaf or a douchebag

Depends on the environment but that sounds about right. EPR cable is what most of PHI uses, different jackets types for triplex vs. single conducter etc. TDR testing has proven useful for checking degradation for important cables, but I'd hardly believe that anyone would test a residential buried service and just wait til it fails.

True, I missed that part in the ad I apologize. 6 day a week repair and a 1 day a week driver is just not feasible in this day and age.

No low compression v6 is gonna sound particularly good even straight piped. Also the sound will echo off the bed so it will be LOUD straight piped. You'll have a much better chance at getting a good sound and the loudness you're looking for with a good quality muffler/resonator setup.

IMO the compression ratio being high or low doesn’t matter so much as it’s a damn V6, and sounds like a toro lawnmower that’s low on fuel. If you want a nice sounding vehicle, that will benefit from a straight pipe get a muscly V8 gasser, or a turbo charged vehicle.

no v6 here just some hamsters on a treadmill under my hood but when the dealer did the catalytic converter recall on my truck they cut my exhaust cause i welded it and i drove it home just no exhaust right out of the cat and it sounded like a cat coughing up a hair ball.

Ehh with fancy equal length stuff it could get pretty good because it's even firing order but that's getting technical and you're right even then not near as good as about anything V8

I think you could spend alot of money to get it sounding nowhere near as good as a big block V8, not to discourage someone from trying but it would be a science experiment and certainly not cheap. Just removing my front cats and adding in a blowmaster made the 4.0 raspier than that chick from the anti-smoking campaign commercials. I can't imagine what a straight pipe would sound like lol
