shits real expensive down near DC. my 2 cousins both live down there. One just moved from a condo to a normal sized house and it was like $500k

granted things have come down since sandy wiped out just about everything here amd its like living in a war zone to this day half of my town is not back in their homes....
but 390K+
before sandy 450K+
i would never be able to afford a home here.....my friends pay alost 4k a month for their homes.....and only one is water front......
my plan is to move in 15 years to a cheaper place "like nj" but not in nj and retire and use my 401k as a first time home buyer and buy a house in cash....lol

can always add a garage later if the lot is large enough. I could either afford a basement or a garage so I got a house with a huge lot I can fit a detached garage on and I have my basement. Lot harder to add a basement then a garage.

No matter how you work it almost every financial adviser who knows his shit will tell you a buying a house to live in is a horrible way to get a profitable return on your money.
