Just ordered a quart of metal ready and a quart of POR-15 in semi-gloss black. Lets hope it comes in by the weekend. Also opinions on a drill with a wire brush vs a flap disk for surface rust removal?

 

flap discs on grinders can be aggressive and remove a good deal of metal if you're not careful. I use this method for most of my rust sanding.

wire brush on a drill blows. I never use this method.

Use a wire brush on a grinder for some real fun. nothing beats wire flying at you at 30,000 rpm's I use this occasionally when I can wear a ferw shirts for protection.

 

I prefer flap disks over being shot with hot wire needles

 

Flap disc it is! I used the wire brush on the drill for little things like prepping the skid I got from Steve but I think the flap disc method will be best for these sliders. I love my angle grinder, honestly the best tool I've bought so far. Zipped through all the tubes in the sliders in under an hour and only went through one and a half cut off wheels.

I also used a palm sander with 150 grit paper and the flat surfaces

 

No snow? We got just enough...but I'm off today which is superb. Well kinda off, getting paid from home and all I had to do was one quote.

Was your rust pretty thick or mostly mild? These sliders need a solid bit of refinishing before I can make them look decent. I figure I'll be using a combination of both flap discs and wire brush so I don't risk pulling off too much metal either.

if you had to pick -

full skids, winch or double din HU with nav? assuming all are 400 bucks.

ugh, problem is im not gonna get to wheel a lot starting in july, i'm leaning towards getting the skids and HU and foregoing the winch till summer.

theres a GB on skids and the headunit is a steal on CL.

 

don't need winch if not getting stuck so don't get stuck.

Had my truck for 6 years and never had a winch. thats what friends with trucks are for
