NJ stopped doing mechanical inspections today because they said no data could be found supporting that the inspections actually did any good or kept anyone safe. Now all you need to pass an emissions test.

I think it's BS and the Gov. just wants to save some of our cash for other projects.

This act bothers me due to the vast amount of cars/trucks on our roads and the total lack of common sense many of the drivers exhibit in regards to proper vehicle maintenance.

I'm no fan of the Gov telling me what I need to do, but due to the amount of idiots we have out here I think our roads will not be as safe.

I kind of wish they would do that here.

I agree with you Boyd. Left to their own devices some people will ignore safety related repairs in favor of saving some money.

I am a huge fan of the Government regulating my life. I love giving my time and money to the Government to inspect my truck. I hate it when the Government shirks it responsibility of watching over me and keeping me safe.

GA doesn't have state inspections either. We just have to get emissions every year.

Its good to see NJ got rid of that. Way too much Government involvement there. They had the governor of NJ on the radio the other day interviewing him. I don't know much about the guy and his background but I really like what he had to say, his plan for the state, and his strategy for executing that plan.

I was thinking the same, but as I pass all the crap cars we have on our roads everyday that are inspected I'm thinking this will not be a good move.

Exactly what I'm worried about. "Why fix my brakes when I can get 22" shiny rims?"

I am not a fan of Government regulation, but someone needs to keep the sheep inline. Now the responsibility will be on the cops when they have much more serious things to worry about then some jackass with bald tires - Well the cops will have to respond when he takes out a family in the rain.

Our new Republican gov is the shit! He is taking us out of the hole we have been in for along time. Somethings he does I will not agree on, but that's why we are all different.

Just because it looks like a piece of crap, doesn't mean it isn't mechanically sound.

    um...no

but thats because my primary job function is NOT traffic control

i rarely hear other people making stops like that too

youd be surprised...even down here...people tend to at least keep their car running and working...

now...a head light may be out...or their windshield held in by duct tape (seriously) but i dont see too many crazy things unsafe mechanically

I don't trust most people to make that determination on their own.

Doesn't mean it IS mechanically sound either. I used to do state inspections, and you'd be horrified by the things that people tried to get me to pass for them. Left to their own devices, it seems the average American would rather buy beer than brakes, which is understandable, but dangerous at the same time.

    X2

I'm not worried about my TW brothers/sisters as most seem to have some common sense.

It is the sheep I'm worried about. You guys know - the people who don't even know they need to change their oil. The people who have 20' of lumber hanging out their car that's tied with a string. The people who stop at the end of a highway on ramp so they can "merge" with 80mpg traffic.

$17 million a year will be saved, so I am happy to hear my taxes will go down.......oh yea they won't :( I just heard we are going up 10% next year.

How does that work? We pay almost $50 for state inspection here, and all that covers is the mechanics time (maybe 20 minutes) and a sticker for the window.
