We went and did a night run last night a a very beautiful spot. It was raining and we were hoping for snow at the top

I took this pic last year sometime, and this is what it looked like then.

    IMG_1406_1_148a85ca5cf24d939bdbe87edb2c018c20a52e21.jpg

You can imagine I was appalled when my lights shined on this. This is all over the rocks behind my truck in the above pic. Also same crap on rocks on opposite side.

    image_345_624a073aeab4f9637cf13e8d064728169c3d4f62.jpg

I've thought about how to fix it and wonder if my buddy who is a media blaster could fix it somehow. It's up at about 11,500 not a train yard. I guarantee I'm getting some binoculars today maybe spot these fools some day.

Wow I was wondering if you had photos when you told me about this. That's just ridiculous!!! I wonder if we hauled a couple water tanks and a pressure washer up if they'd do any good at at least blasting the paint away. You'd still see it for awhile until the weather changed it again.

Yes it's hard to know what motivates some people and unfortunate they don't keep to themselves. I did speak with and gave the photos to a ranger Sunday and he was obviously as irritated as I. Maybe there's some details that would/could lead to the culprit via social media. I'll see it again and have a clearer look at all of it unfortunately.

There's things I love about this state, but the amount of disrespect I see for open areas is ridiculous. Can't tell you how many utterly trashed campsites I've seen and garbage pops up everywhere. Now these same idiots are tagging anything they can reach with spraypaint. It's truly a shame and frustrating as hell.

That's messed up. I have suffered the same disappointment at some near & dear places. The Gilman tunnels in Jemez were beautifully respected and natural when I first passed through them as a young teen, and these days are covered in grafitti. Less than two weeks ago I was hiking out of one of my favorite wilderness areas and came across a hunting camp where the users had packed out and left a raging fire full of two dozen half burnt MRE's and a campsite full of trash. I put the fire out and packed out 15 lbs of trash, ready to beat the shit out of the people who'd left it if I met them at the trailhead. People are assholes, for the most part.

It's been too long since a group of us has been out... Let's do something... anything.

Some recent pics of my adventures...

I'm so glad to see this thread surviving and thriving. Feeling better than I have in a long time. Hoping to get a couple things fixed on the truck then hit up some adventures.

Just found this thread. So glad I did! I'm based in Santa Fe. I've dual-sported a lot of the areas across New Mexico :bikewhoops: but have been slowly building up my Taco to do some exploring as well. Hope to see some of you out on the trail :humble:

Glad to hear you're feeling better, Tom. We moved into the new house two weeks ago. I was driving up to the foothills to take the dogs for a walk and passed your place 3-4 minutes after leaving my driveway. We're practically neighbors.

Same here. I'm off that weekend. Even if it's not a Christmas tree run, lets go do something. I'm also off 12/11-12/13 and 12/17 through 1/4 for alternate Christmas tree run dates.

Awesome Nick. Tom was talking about Glorieta Mesa on the 5th because he can't do an over night. I would really love to do an overnight trip too though. Maybe we can make the overnight optional, or I can go the 11-13th weekend too if you want to go both!!! I am open to whatever, but those are my only two weekends I am available for a little while.

I think it's given many people ideas over the years. Which is why I spent the time making it, to share what I've learned.

That, and to brag a little, of course.

I'd be up for that. La Bajada is a good winter run as well because it's south facing, so it makes for a warm day and it's usually dry. It would be a pretty good challenge for your new rig with the longer wheelbase. Glorieta Mesa will probably have some snow, though, especially after this next storm rolls though. That would be fun.

So do we just want to call it Glorieta Mesa on the 5th? I just want to be outside!!!! Then we can work details from there.

I have upgraded again since then and I'm now using an power mirror control switch for in-cab winch control. I don't even have to plug the controller in, I just flip the safely on the power mirror switch and go to town. The only time I use the plug in winch controller is if I have to use the controls from outside the vehicle.

To answer your question though, no, the cable never really got in the way.

See these three posts for more info/pics on the power mirror switch setup:

    Sounds good to me.
