Because that is where we stopped and got out to go rabbit hunting. I was 15 and just wanted to get something to cook for dinner so I could get back to whatever video game I was playing at the time.

Ah. I tend not to wander from the trail. Learned that lesson hiking and biking in and around Tucson. If the snakes don't get you, the cactus will.

Alright guys, finally got a chance to get my pics uploaded. I only took one picture on Glorieta Mesa, all the rest are from La Bajada.

Quick question, noobie here(hope I'm posting in the right place here). Is a rear diff locker an absolute necessity for trips like these? I really want to learn to offroad with more experienced drivers, but it will be a while before I can afford a locker.

No sir. It helps but isn't necessary. Last few runs we've done have barely needed 4WD.

I'm going out to the West Mesa on 2 Jan. Let me know if you want to go.

    Nick, you still interested?

SGT Taco and I went out to NM 165 today on a lark. Ran into a stuck Chevy. Found out it was a group trying to get up to a stuck Taco. We got the Chevy unstuck and after promising to take the Taco owner up to his truck, the driver of the Chevy turned his truck down the mountain. We eventually got up to the Taco, stuck at the sign that warned the road was closed for winter and to proceed at own risk. Looked like the guy had tried to heed the warning and got it stuck turning it around. Took us a bit, maybe two hours, but finally got him unstuck.

    Good day for snow wheeling!

Right after unsticking the Chevy. Figured maybe try out the chains just in case.

When you say the West Mesa, you're talking the Rio Puerco via Southern blvd, correct?

I'm definitely still interested. My family and I are finally getting over the flu, so that shouldn't be an issue. We are tossing around the idea of a ski trip Fri-Sat, but should be back on Sat night.

Nice run guys. Glad to see you got out and spun some tires in the white stuff. How much of a difference did the chains make?

That dude who was stuck sure buried his front end. Looks like he drove into a hole that he didn't know was there. Did you guys continue up after you got him out?

I'm guessing he slipped into the inside of the turn while trying to get turned around. He was 3/4 of the way up his tire in snow. Pretty sure he was resting on the skid.

We didn't continue on. No fresh tracks beyond that and it was already 2:30 when we got him unstuck. Headed back out and got some vittles. We were thinking of going back in this weekend and making some fresh tracks but time is getting short.

Me, Slobra, Dustin (Guy in the older Toyota pickup who went with us last time) and another are heading out the Puerco on Sunday 3 Jan. Meeting at 10am at the Walgreens on Southern if anyone else is up for it. We tried to get it in line with others doing 2 Jan, but none of our schedules worked out :(

Did any of you who went out to the Puerco this weekend take any pictures? If so, post up!

MLK day is Monday January 18th. I have to work GY's mon-thurs that week, but will be off Fri-Sun (22-24th)... Anybody up for a (post) MLK day run??
