Yeah its a bummer. As far as I know, blm doesnt have fire restrictions in place- only an “explosives ban”. So we cant blow shit up haha
I know of some nice (dispersed) campsites on blm just east of the ojito wilderness-like right outside the ojito. There’s some mild 4x4 trails and archaeological sites around there too. Not a lot of shade but it’d make for a fun night of camping.

BLM is always great but hard to beat the heat for sure. Heading out near Datil next weekend.

I am looking to do the Northern section of the NM BDR starting in Luna, NM. I mapped it out last night and came up with a four day trip with a return to Arizona. Now to find the time to do this trip.

Also, I’ll be going up to my families cabin in Creede next weekend and plan on hitting some of the passes. I’ll report back then.

I’d still like to take stony pass, didn’t get to last summer but maybe this year! Let me know if you hear anything about it.

That’s one that I want to take a look at myself too. I don’t think the snowpack was as crazy this year so the stream shouldn’t be too high I think.

I grew up in that area.. there's a great drive from Luna across back close to reserve that passes by Fox mountain... when I was young my brother and I saw a jaguar back there

Awesome, when are you planning on that trip? A group of us did section 3 last November, it was a cool trip and definitely cold at night that time of year haha. I'd like to run the section again but with a little different route because it wasn't very challenging in a truck. Anyway, make sure to let us know how your trip goes I'd be interested in running that route in the future.

The trip report I posted a while back is quoted below if you're interested.

It'll probably be hotter than the forest but there is plenty of BLM land up north, currently camp fires are still allowed.

I've been wanting to check out Alta Lakes in Co.. from what I've read/heard the road up requires 4wd - keeping lots of people out.. there's dispersed camping around the area.. lots of trails..etc.. to hit nearby..

Anyone been up there? Anyone interested.. I could pull off a midweek trip if anyone else could- less traffic ... but I'm game for whatever.

I try and get up to Telluride every year and I've never been down that road but passed it plenty of times it's always packed. The kind of crap think about Colorado is that there is always snow and most roads aren't "clear" enough to drive through until July.
