Sounds great. I put you up in the OP and you saw where we are meeting and what time and all? Great to have you coming. I don't think that there will be a lot of 2012's there. You might be the only one.

I just purchased a new 2012 Tacoma from Earnhardt here in Phoenix. I am graduating from ASU in early May and I can think of little better way to celebrate than to break in the truck up in Moab.

It is currently a stock Sr5 4x4 so my big question is what if any mods would be absolutely necessary to go up to Moab and tackle some minor trails? I do not plan on doing anything incredibly serious with my new truck, but I want it to be capable - better start preparing now.

Also if anyone wants to meet up in Phoenix and drive up to Moab I am down. Possible route up featuring scenic drives along the Apache Trail, up past Young, and from the Rim to Winslow along FSR 34 - all beautiful drives if you haven't done them before.

Congrats on the new truck. What I would suggest is tires and sliders and a cb radio. Those are the main purchases that I would make. The bumpers and such can always come later. Check out the links in my Sig for the different groups. I believe that there is a group heading out from that area.

    congrats as well...

i'd also first look into a cb radio...get some tow straps and maybe a shackle to fit in your receiver..those are some cheap things that'll keep you in touch with everyone and allow someone to tug you up or out of things if you get in a bad area..

everything below would be a bonus to have
a good set of tires will be key as well, but depending on what you have currently, they may be alright for slick rock trails..also keep in mind if you plan on doing a lift in the near future, you may want to wait on the tires until you lift so you can get some 33s under your truck comfortably

sliders is another good option to help protect your rocker panels and keep that truck looking good in case of any ledge, rock or hill wants to sneak up there...look into bolt ons if you are unsure of how hard you will wheel, you can always weld them on later if you choose to

after the communication, recovery, traction, lift and basic armor is done...look into skids if you have any $$ left...then bumpers and winch will follow..but the later items are not needed to have a good time in moab..

Just to clarify though, you're truck is quite capable in stock form. You can have an absolute blast in moab in a stock taco. Just didn't want you to get the idea that you have to do a bunch of mods just to go and have fun. The cb radio will be key to staying in touch with everyone on the trail. Everything else that you can do and in the general order already explained above will just allow you to be a little more brave a particular line or tackle harder routes.

Thanks for the responses. I am excited about the trip. Quick question I was looking at a set of lightly used BF Goodrich Rugged Trails off a 2011 that was recently lifted. They asked $400 for the five tires and wheels. I was thinking of swapping them out for my dunlops to get at least a little better traction without spending much cash - I figure the brand new dunlops and wheels could fetch something similar. Do you guys think it is worth swapping them out? I probably could not afford a new set of tires by May, but $400 is pretty cheap for 5 wheels and tires.

to get a feel for who wants to run what while out there, i have posted a poll of the trails discussed before...

    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/south-west/212628-operation-moab-trail-listing.html

can only fit 15 options on the poll so i'm sure people will want to run trails not on the list, but these are some of the popular trails...

the poll is public, so you'll be able to see who else wants to run similar trails and we can start to build trail groups and maybe even trail leaders...

    Colorado crew...

there will be a handful of us heading out tuesday night and staying in palisade, co...

if you still plan on heading out around 4am, we will wait for you guys to roll through the area and roll to moab from there..

it's about 3.5-4 hours from denver to palisade then another 2-3 hrs from there (we will have a trailer in tow so we can't go too fast)
