Hey guys, figured I would pick the 2nd gen owners brains. My 2nd gen is a Limited with the 4.0. I started my truck with the air on, the fan just quit working. I messed with the fan speed switch and got it to come back on. Next day, I'm driving, it quits again. I was able to get it to work with the fan speed switch. Now, today, it quit on me. And no matter what I tried, I have no air. And I do not have air at any speed. I bought a blower motor thinking it was that by the way it acted. Was thinking about installing it tonight before bed. But someone told me it might not be that. And supposedly parts stores won't take a return of electrical stuff if it has been installed. I didn't check any fuses yet since I thought by the way it was acting it wasn't fuse related. I made sure my connections were tight, I've read that sometimes people have had their plug for their resistor come loose. Anyone have any clues?

You hit the nail on the head, my connector for the blower motor is burned up. I pulled it and seen that it was burned big time. Also, wiggling it and my motor kicked on. Thanks for that. I will be getting a new plug.

I just put my new blower motor in and for now it's fixed. I will go by toyota first thing in the morning for the plug. Thanks @Dm93. I've read lots of your comments. You know what's up on the electrical side of things. I owe you one

The entire HVAC system on our trucks is a General Motors special and hold over from the days of NUMMI, the joint venture between Toyota and GM.

Its tough to find some of the electrical connectors on the system unless one digs through the General Motors catalogs. I have acquired a few of the connectors and terminal pins and especially that hideous large yellow connector stuffed next to the Junction Box on the passenger side, lol...

Blower resistor, works on high but not other speed?
usually you can wiggle the connector to get it back on, its located near the blower motor on the passenger side you'll see a grey connector with 4 wires, give that a tug with the blower on low. Clean the contacts and it will last for a little bit. I upgraded mine to the 3rd gen blower resistor and it works great.

I have had my fan go bad before but that is an easy fix. The blower resistor just went bad. Cleaned the connection but ended up replacing. Now works great

You can get it, the deal is Toyota doesn't sell readymade pigtails. They sell the connector body and terminals separately and are quite proud of them.

There's alot of clone connectors on Amazon and ebay but they use alot smaller wire than factory, some people have had success with them though.

I just came out of toyota. Figured I'd stop in while I'm in town. $30 for the plug and prongs. I'm just going to do that. After checking Amazon, I'm afraid for how cheap they are they will be junk.

    That's not bad at all.
Do you happen to have part numbers? I'd like to post them in my thread.

They sold me the plug, joints, and the 2 wires. For now. I just want this fixed. However, they told me it's the resistor that causes this issue. They updated it and the plug. They told me it was $48 for the new resistor and then 20 something for the pigtail. Once I pick it up, I will post those part numbers. I wanna give back to tacoma world. @Dm93, @TnShooter, and @gearcruncher have really given me a lot of insight on here. It's time for me to give back in return.

Can't read the bottom part number.

I have the part numbers for the updated resistor and pigtail posted already.

Let me ask dm93, is it worth it to get the upgraded resistor and plug? How much does it help?

I wouldn't worry about it until it goes out, the problem most of the time is due to terminal fretting so just unplugging it and plugging it back in may make it last longer.
Mine is still fine so far but my blower switch was starting to get discolored so I came up with the relay mod to run the high speed instead of running that much current through the switch.

Thanks for that. I won't bother then. I'll just put the new plug on.
