Seen a lot of posts about the very bad no good double mean clutch accumulator on the 6 speed MT. Does the 5 speed MT have one as well? The clutch design on the 5 speed seems somewhat simpler.

Thanks. Now I can finally tell my doctor I'm accumulation free.

    Congrats! :D

It is pretty sad that we had to manually cut it out.

Now I'm curious what the 6MT feels like. Certainly everything about the transmission on my truck feels alive and unadulterated.

We need that accumulator on the v6 to dampen all that mega torque.;)

I love this 6MT, especially without the accumulator. Tranny is nice and smooth, just needs a few mods to make it perfect.

New, the 6MT felt nice and only got better with break in. The main break in happened in about 1k, but 1st took a while longer.

Eventually, I had a couple times where getting into 1st at a stop was difficult. That was fixed with Redline MT-90.

The biggest issue with the accumulator was imprecise downshifts. Rev matching and smoothness was difficult. It is something that appears over time when I normally would be used to an MT, not still second guessing and hyper aware. That started my search for the accumulator because I knew that most new MTs have them.

With the ADM, Redline, and time / use, the 6MT is as nice as any other MT that I have driven other than a Miata. The TSB and OVT tunes also improved shifting.

I agree! After doing the ADM the other day I went ahead and ordered URD's kit to shorten the throws - looking forward to shifting bliss

Nice! The 2wd LOW mod is amazing as well. The reverse sucks otherwise.

That problem I've decided to live with - there is too much crazy push-this-shift-that goofy sequence stuff for me to remember

That problem will only get solved if I do the freewheel hub conversion, so it's probably something I have to live with.

Seldom tow, but when I do.....man that tall a reverse SUCKS.

Its super easy man, just hit the switch before you go into 4hi and then 4lo. Everything is the same, except for that 1 push of a button. I would highly recommend it.

Huh, really? I felt like after I read up on it I told myself I'd need a cheat sheet on the visor to remember it. Thanks for the info!

It is that easy. Push the button first going into 2Lo or coming out of 2Lo.

Also, you can use the 2LM in 4Hi to get that 10mi of exercise every month, if needed. No more worries about dry roads and corners binding things up. You'll just want to flick in actual 4Hi from every once in a while to cycle the ADD actuator.

Regardless, the free hubs are still on my wish lists. Someday!

Like having a pillow on top of the clutch pedal. When it's 50°F or below, the pedal moves slower and is really slow to return up. Down near 15°F, I nearly have to pull the pedal up with my toe until it warms up.

I'll rip that trash out tomorrow afternoon, I think. It's the only nagging thing about the truck in 16,000mi. I've driven a dozen cars long-term that had various restriction tricks in the clutch systems but none were near the Tacoma's poor characteristics. Most I knew they were there but was able to adapt fine. I'm going to damage something in the trans if I dont get rid of this thing. They say it's to help novice drivers but it will do nothing but set them up for failure when they drive something normal and fun. That and to protect toyota from claims from d-bags dropping the clutch and breaking something. I'm leaning toward that one, it's more likely that a company will spend money to save money than to just be nice.

Be glad you don't have one but at least it's a super easy "fix."

Given that it looks like a science project to start with, there should be a pull pin bypass in the damn thing to give everyone the opportunity of a no hassle delete.

Beyond the Clutch Pedal, it's not like there is much warranty possibility after a few K anyway.

    +1

I had the vacuum setup go out (surpriiiise) on a 1st gen S10 4.3 4x4 MT and put a posi-lok cable actuator in as a replacement, thus yielding 2LO. It was awesome! I wouldn't have believed it was that handy when people talked about it but it was a convenient byproduct of fixing the front diff and it was glorious! It made backing a trailer or up a steep driveway so graceful. That's not a word often used in the context of a 1991 S10

In certain other manufacturers, there's literally a restrictor pill you remove, bleed and you're done. I'm still ok with this setup and solution, what if it required machining an internal slave cyl to fix? Nah, son

Yeah. A friend said that Bimmers were like that. He didn't keep it long enough to actually mod it.

Very true though. I was encouraged by the vid of the 2nd Gen'ers just tossing on a coupler. The dremel mod is the way to go though. I am thinking about yanking out my brake line elbow and tossing in the dremel mod. I'm not a big fan of my safety wire.
