For the past two mornings, which have been in the upper 20s (F), my truck has failed to start (no crank, no fire, no turnover, nada). After the outside temperature has warmed up in the afternoon, the truck starts fine. This is the first winter with sub-freezing temperatures the truck and I have endured. There is a TSB (EG043-05, later EG033-06), but they address the 2005 model year only. Anyone with similar experience in a post-2005? Does the TSB apply?

welcome to tw. there is a tsb for "intermittent extended cranking/no start", but it sounds like to me that your battery is hitting the crapper due to the extreme cold.

    Thanks for the welcome!

Battery is a relatively new (three months) Optima Red Top.

hmmmmm.................dealer needs to look at that then. could be something faulty, but im still gonna say that the extreme cold has something to do with whatever is going on.

I had a Mazda pickup a few years ago and on the second or third day I had it home I experienced the same problem.....No crank,no click nothing.I called the dealer and he asked if I had driven through any water the previous day.He told me to turn the ignition and hold it in the start posistion. After about 30 seconds the truck started perfectly.

He explained that the starters will get wet and freeze overnight and by holding the ignition on,it heats and thaws the starter.......Just a thought.

One other thing, the clutch pedal is going all the way to the floor correct?

I wish we had rain here that would have resulted in a soaked starter. We're about 14" below average for the year. There was a buildup of ice covering the truck (no garage), but I would imagine that folks living in colder climes than Central Texas would have experienced this prior to me.

Regarding the clutch, yep, it was in all the way. In addition, I tried the cluth cancel button, to no avail.

I'm taking it to the dealer tomorrow, so we'll see.
