I have a 2006 Tacoma 4.0 that has always had a problem starting sometimes. Not a cranking issue or anything but just nothing happening like it has a bad starter. I always thought it was a neutral safety switch issue because I have always been able to put it in neutral and then back into park and then it would start no problem. I have been stuck there for hours with no luck and all I did to get it to start was just put it in neutral and back into park and just like that it acted just fine. So I continued to do that for 6-12 months until the motor blew. I recently replaced the motor and it started just fine and I drove it for a couple days and then randomly it happened while I was at work and I honestly forgot about it having that issue previously but this time I couldn’t just put it in neutral and do my old trick to get it to start. So I figured whatever it used to be finally actually went out. So I put a new neutral safety switch in there and no luck. Then I thought maybe the starter was bad so I replaced that and also no luck. I took the old starter out and tested it and it seemed fine so I put it back in the truck and I put the key all the way forward and jumped the starter and it fired right up but it wouldn’t do it a 2nd time and only clicks, this is when I bought a new starter in hopes that I could at least jump this one and drive it home and work on it but it also acts like it won’t engage. I’m pretty stumped on this issue and my truck has currently been stuck on the job site. I have checked all fuses and relays and everything was fine. I have also checked all my grounds and tested the alternator and that was also fine. I’m thinking it’s something to do with the ignition but don’t even know where to start. Thanks in advance!
