Do you have someone who can listen down by the starter
while you try to start it to see if it is clicking? Otherwise
hook up a voltmeter at starter solenoid and see what the
voltage reads while cranking at the time it won't start.
Find the relay and see if it is clicking at the time you turn the key to start.
Could be several things.... Hard to say if it is the
remote start, probably no easy way to disable it?

Also I have done this before, kind of quick thing to do
with the starter. When it just clicks if your starter does
click. While someone is trying to start it tap the starter solenoid
with a small hammer, not too hard though and if it starts
cranking probably just solenoid contacts shot. Would need a new starter.
    Just some random thoughts.

I have the same issue on my '06 Tacoma. It began after the truck was sitting for an extended period of time while waiting for the frame replacement. Of course it would never have the no start issue when I took it back to the dealer. The service manager blamed it on a bad spot on the starter. If you find a solution, please give us a follow up post! I plan on just living with the issue for the moment, as my Taco is not my main form of transportation.
