Swapped out my old battery that had a bad cell with a new one today. Wasn't paying attention and left the ignition switch in the on position while I installed the new battery (yes yes rookie move). Got a little spark and one of the relays fired on and off for a few seconds.

When I went to start for the first time I got nothing (all the accessories do turn on however). No rapid clicking like when the battery is dead. Confirmed the new battery is outputting 12+ volts. Tested the starter relay and every fuse under the hood and in the cabin and even swapped in the horn relay but still now dice. Tested the continuity of the negative terminal wire as well.

Was wondering what to try next? Could I have destroyed the start solenoid with the live wire install? Feeling pretty dumb right now and am not sure what to do next

    pinstripes. lots of pinstripes.
You tried to lock the truck and unlock it? Security might have cut the starter circuit.

So everything else seems to work but the truck will not crank?

Hymm, never heard of installing a new battery with key in the ON setting, but dont see how that can damage anything unless you shorted something during the install. Try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes, with key out of the ignition, and see if that resets things.

No, you want to read voltage.
Also, don’t jam the probes in to hard. You could damage the terminals.
They aren’t that easy to damage, but I always like to warn people.
Touching the terminal is good enough.

Thanks to all the quick responses. Disconnecting the battery for a few minutes did the trick. Curious as to why/how this fixed it.

I'd bet there's an aftermarket alarm on it. The stock starting system is nothing but switches and relays, there's no computers involved and the immobilizer only disables fuel not the starter.
