You askin' me? If so, I use Gaia GPS. A must-have in my opinion. Maps are pre-downloaded so no cellular connection is needed. I get a solid GPS signal from the inReach (attached to the GoPro windshield mount) via Bluetooth to the iPad.

3' was just a tad too short routed with the Hondo clips for an iphone6 mounted vertically. The standard apple cable is a meter and the extra length makes a difference.
    YMMV

*This is with the mount on the vent to the right of the steering wheel*

Once the vent mount is installed, I see the vent still opens, but can you rotate the vent at all still?

It will not rotate with everything installed, it still has a slight open/close movement though

I off roaded the crap out of mine with a large phone, doesn't budge a bit. It is a well thought out product, love it!

I’ve had my Hondo garage mounts for a while now and decided to do some modifications. Not having the vent open up all the way during the summer heat was pretty annoying so after some Dremel work that problem is solved and now my vents open all the way with the mount installed. It required a little bit to be taken out of the top and bottom fin in the vent to clear the parts of the hondo garage mount. Very easy mod and only took a few minutes.

    Here’s both mounts installed

Here’s how much I had to dremel out to make it work (there’s a little bit taken out of the bottom one as well)

Nice work @Shellshock. How difficult is it to remove the dash area holding the vents? My vent is starting to make plastic-on-plastic friction noises due to the Hondo Big Squeeze holding an iPad. It's a fairly heavy combo. (The Big Squeeze itself rattles pretty good, mainly when not holding anything, but that's a separate noise.)

It pops off pretty easy. I start at the passenger side and just pull. It’ll require some force but once the first tab pops out, it comes right off.

If you close the slide and tighten it to itself it won't rattle when empty.

Question: Will it effectively hold up and mount an iPad Pro in a Otter Case? I'm using TopoMaps app and a Garmin GLO Bluetooth GPS with the iPad to navigate on USGS quads with mine and need a good way to mount to the dash! I really want to keep the iPad in the case- it's dirt and waterproof, perfect for use on the trail.

I'm using TopoMaps app ($7.99) and a Garmin GLO Bluetooth GPS ($99) with the iPad to navigate on high resolution free (yes, free!!! There's no subscription fees after you buy the app and the topos are downloaded from USGS public domain for free) 1:24000 high resolution USGS quads with mine. A standard Bluetooth GPS won't work with apple products but ones like the GLO will.

Only caviot is that you have to pre-download the quads over the internet before you can use them off line, and each quad is huge. Perfect though, they show a lot of detail like trails and mines, ghost town ruins, some pictograph sites, springs, topography and detailed geographic place names. They fill in all those green blobs that the other apps have. Just be aware that not all the trails they show are necessarily open - or passable!

Here's a shot of the iPhone version, but the iPad version rocks!IMG_0780.jpg

I know I'm late to the party, but just ordered yesterday! Really excited about it, especially after seeing the little mod @Shellshock made above. I will definitely be doing that

Thank you, I had hoped it included the perfect squeeze but wasn't sure and didn't want to order two. Back to the checkout page.
