Another vote for Diode Dynamics here. I have a 2011 base, and it was not prewired. However 12v electrical is something that I find easy to work with, and when I added my accessory fuse block, I also mounted a set of relays for the lights I had planned, including one that turns off my fogs when I switch to high beams. I know there is a thread here about modifying this function on trucks with factory fogs, but I wanted to mimic the OEM operation.

Yeah thanks to both of you for that info, I will have a look at Diode Dynamics for sure. Right up until now I was leaning towards Baha Designs. From what I can tell they offer high-quality proper fit Fogs, but they are quite proud of them if you know what I mean.

My Diode Dynamics bulbs didn’t stay connected, they’re made in China, they just fall right out of the socket. What a waste of $$$

For info most of the forum users on here buy the whole light not the bulb. Had mine for a few years now with no issues.

Diode has no shame ripping people off.

Ive been driving the Baja HARD since the late 60’s. I once watched Ivan T-bone a buggy off the cliff on the old Rumorosa switchbacks. Many hours worth of stories to tell.

I have zero tolerance for hyped up products that fail you when you need them or even worse, when your life depends on them.

For one sounds like you cheaped out and bought led bulbs for a halogen light. Next time buy the right product for the application.

So, you installed drop in LED bulbs in a halogen housing and they fell out. (Yes, that's a bummer.) Then you say that you've run Baja many, many times. Did you ever simply slap LED bulbs in a halogen housing to run Baja? (I kind of doubt it.)

What I'm saying here is that you're taking one (low end) Diode Dynamics product that you had bad luck with and equating that experience to running Baja. Anybody serious about running Baja does not run low end products from any manufacturer's lineup in their race vehicle. Just like with Baja Designs, Diode Dynamics makes a wide range of products to fit the wide ranging needs of their customer base. Let's keep our comparisons apples to apples here.

Personally speaking, I have a ton of Diode Dynamics products in my 4Runner ranging from low end LED interior lighting to high end SS3 Max fogs and SS5 Pro Spot beams behind the grill. I wouldn't run the interior lighting at Baja, but wouldn't hesitate one bit with the high end stuff.

I went with Diode Dynamics (SS3 Pro) for my fogs and I absolutely love them. I liked their yellow color better than the Baja (has a greenish fluorescent tint to it) and I think they look a bit better in the bezels. The output is amazing and makes driving at night so much more comfortable, even in regular weather I leave them on considering an 8 year warranty.

Independently of the brand I also recommend the fog light anytime mod to jump the relay to get power whenever the tails are on, so I can turn them on without my headlights on and they do not turn off when I put my high beams on. Very nice to have the close/low sides of the roads lit up for animals even with high beams on.

What's your thoughts on the ss3 pro vs the ss3 max fogs?...as fast as looks go I like the darker amber lense of the max compared to the yellow of the pro..I know they are street legal but are they kinda over kill for city/suburb driving?

Going with the ss3 pro with the back light feature. Any know of a video/instructions showing how to splice the back light wires into the dtrl's or is there a better option (electrically challanged.)

Diode Dynamics in my opinion has a better output for fog and inclimate weather. Baja Designs are more output driven. Baja does have their new SAE lights which have improved optics for DOT/SAE true approval, however I feel like Diodes pattern and color is easier on the eyes and has a better "field of view" when being used in diminished weather conditions. Let us know if we can assist, we have Diode and Baja kits in stock and the best pricing around!

Diode Dynamics has lights and bulbs for sale, that’s for sure. But “ buyer beware” is an understatement to say the least.

my DD’s work well and anyone I know with them too.

noted. Didn’t know original frame Tacoma can win 1st place in all the Bajas. I’ll have to do that to test.

if ever an issue arises I’ll hit them up ask how to fix it.

I started with the SS3 Pro Fogs in Selective yellow, then upgraded to the Max. The Pro has a taller, slightly less well-defined horizontal pattern than the Max. Said another way, it has more "spill." The Max has a more well defined and more intense horizontal pattern with less spill. The Pro is pretty darned impressive and has more than enough light for almost everyone. The Max - at first - seemed like it had less output, but that was because of the tighter pattern which took a little getting used to. The Max also requires more precise aiming to maximize output while not bothering oncoming drivers. Hope that helps.
